Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill wants to turn the page: “I gotta prove myself, I gotta show up different”
Speaking during the Miami Dolphins’ OTAs, wide receiver Hill vowed to bounce back from a frustrating 2024 season.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill says he has plenty to prove next season, after an unsuccessful 2024 in which he battled injury and seemingly threatened to leave the franchise.
Dogged by a wrist issue throughout the season, Hill registered just 81 receptions for 959 yards last year - his lowest receiving figures since 2019.
The 8-9 Dolphins missed out on the postseason, the first time Hill has been absent from the playoffs in his nine-year NFL career. This prompted the 31-year-old to suggest in an end-of-season interview that he planned to seek a move from Florida.
“I’m out, bro”
“I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family,” Hill said after Miami’s Week 18 loss to the New York Jets, per NFL.com’s Eric Edholm.
“If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro.”
“Emotions were high then”
However, Hill rowed back on his remarks later in January. “What y’all had heard at the end of the season was frustration,” he said, per ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.
Speaking this week at Miami’s organized team activities (OTAs), Hill added: “It was tough. Obviously, emotions were high then.”
Pr NFL.com’s Michael Baca, the WR told reporters: “At the end of the day, man, I’m just looking to move forward from that, hoping that I can prove to myself and prove to my teammates that I’m still one of them ones, man, who likes chasing 2K [receiving yards], still one of those ones chasing playoff dreams and all that great stuff.”
Hill, who has undergone two wrist operations in the off-season, also said he would understand if he is no longer a Dolphins captain in the campaign ahead.
“I gotta show up different”
“I gotta prove myself,” the five-time Pro Bowler said. “This OTAs, training camp, I gotta prove myself. I gotta show up different. The mindset gotta be different. I don’t feel like I deserve it, and if I didn’t get it, I wouldn’t dwell on it. I wouldn’t sweat it because I put myself in that position.”
When does the Dolphins’ 2025 season start?
Heading into their fourth season under head coach Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins play their first preseason game on August 10, when they visit the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. A road game against the Detroit Lions follows on August 16, before Miami closes out its preseason by hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 23.
The Dolphins kick off their 2025 regular season on September 7, with a Week 1 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.
