If you think of the New Orleans Saints, the first name that probably comes to mind is legendary quarterback Drew Brees. Now, the Louisiana franchise has announced that it will honor perhaps the greatest player to ever wear the black and gold by inducting him into the Organization Hall of Fame.

Brees arrived in New Orleans in 2006 after spending five formative seasons with the San Diego Chargers. His career and the destiny of the Saints changed immediately. The key to the team winning Super Bowl XLIV, Brees was named its MVP after beating Peyton Manning’s Indianapolis Colts.

In terms of individual awards obtained with the Saints, the Purdue University graduate was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 and 2011. The 2011 campaign was historic as it set the record for most passing yards in a single season with 5,476; two years later, Manning would break the mark by one yard.

Additionally, he was part of the NFC team in 12 Pro Bowls. Brees was named to the All-Pro teams four times, but only in 2006 did he make the first team. With the Saints, the Austin, Texas native had 68,010 passing yards and 491 touchdown passes after completing 68.8 percent of his throws. Their record was 142-86 in the regular season and 9-8 in the playoffs.

His career was so prolific that he became the first quarterback in NFL history to total 80,000 yards. In fact, he set the standard for nearly every NFL quarterback record. His premature retirement meant that Tom Brady was able to surpass his mark in every category.

Doug Moreau also inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame

The Saints also present the Joe Gemelli Fleur de Lis Award to very important members of the organization and this year Doug Moreau was the recipient. Moreau is about to begin his 27th season as part of the New Orleans franchise since he has been in charge of announcing home games since 1998.
