Eagles have a ‘Plan B’ for Jalen Hurts
Hurts’ inconsistent 2025 season has reopened the debate in Philadelphia and he may explore the 2026 Draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive crisis during the 2025 season did not go unnoticed. After a campaign marked by inconsistency, culminating in an early wild card exit, rumours of a possible shake-up at the quarterback position have begun to circulate across NFL circles.
Jalen Hurts, a two-time Super Bowl participant and MVP of one of those appearances, entered the season with high expectations. However, his production in decisive moments fell short of the standard the franchise expects from its star quarterback. While Hurts’ overall numbers remain respectable, with more than 3,200 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and his customary impact as a runner, concerns have grown around his limitations as a passer and his inconsistency under pressure. These issues have drawn scrutiny from analysts and internally within the organisation.
According to sources cited by The Athletic, there are voices around the league suggesting the Eagles may already be eyeing the 2026 draft as an opportunity to secure a young quarterback. Although Hurts is unlikely to be moved in the short term, largely due to a contract that ties him to the team for several more seasons, the idea of adding emerging talent as a contingency plan is gaining momentum.
The situation echoes Philadelphia’s approach in 2020, when the team selected Hurts in the second round despite Carson Wentz being firmly established as the starter. That decision ultimately reshaped the franchise. Now, some experts believe Howie Roseman could look to repeat that strategy, keeping the current starter as QB1 while quietly developing a potential successor.
This is not necessarily an indictment of Hurts, but rather a reflection of a broader offensive outlook that requires evolution. A decline in passing efficiency, an increasingly predictable scheme, and playcalling issues following the unsuccessful experiment with Kevin Patullo as coordinator have exposed the need for meaningful adjustments if the Eagles are to return to title contention.
