Eagles 19 vs 22 Chargers summary, stats, score and highlights | NFL Week 14

For the fourth time in the game, it was the LA Chargers coming up with the big play, picking off Hurts for the 4th time. Cam Hart tipped it and it was Tony Jefferson who came up with the pick to seal the game for the Chargers who improve to 9-4 while the Eagles drop their third straight and sink to 8-5. 

The Chargers got the ball first and set up a 54 yard go ahead field goal from Dicker who was a perfect 5/5 on the night. 

The Eagles kicked a field goal with 2:16 to go but that allowed the Chargers to get into position and tie the game up with this 46 yard field goal from Cam Dicker. 

Hurts was tipped and picked off for a third time this time by Hart who put the Chargers in position to tie up the game at 16-16. 

The Eagles would take the lead with this third down and short play that looked like it was going to be a tush push but Hurts pitched it out to Saquon Barkley and he took it 53 yards to the house. He ended the night with 122 yards, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Eagles turnovers. 

Herbert got picked right before the half but the Eagles couldn't take advatage as Jake Elliott missed a long field goal to close out the second quarter. Herbert was 12/26 for 139 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT, but he ran for 66 yards banged up hand and all. 

The Eagles defense would give the ball right back after picking off Justin Herbert on the next play from scrimmage. Neither team could do much on the offensive side of the ball even through the defenses kept making big plays. 

Hurts got picked again on his next pass on the following possession. Donte Jackson picked off Hurts for the second time in a matter of minutes on a night that Hurts came into the game with just 2 INTs all season. 

Things started to get ugly after that. Jalen Hurts had a nightmare game in LA, starting with this pick, that was fumbled, recovered by Hurts who fumbled and gave it back to the Chargers. 

The Los Angeles Chargers got a huge home win and took a step closer to the playoffs on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Justin Herbert didn't have a huge day but it was a gutsy performance from the QB who had hand surgery on his non throwing hand last week. 

The Chargers started the game hot getting on the board first with this TD pass from Herbert to Omarion Hampton. That would be the only touchdown they would score all night long.

Herbert was picked off at the end of the first half by Jackson and that gave the Eagles a chance to tighten up the game but Elliott missed the field goal at the end of the 2nd quarter. Hurts is 10/19 for 95 yards and has thrown two picks. 

Dean broke through the middle and forced a fumble on Herbert on the play after Hurts' second pick of the game. Herbert is 6/12 for 95 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. 

Hurts was picked off on his very next pass play, this time by Jackson, but the Eagles defense had his back and gave the ball right back to him. 

Then things started to get ugly for both teams. Hurts threw a pick, Hand made the pick, fumbled, then Hurts picked it up and fumbled giving it back to the Dye and the Chargers. 

The Chargers got off to a hot start taking their opening drive right down the field and punched the ball in the end zone for the game's only TD so far. It was Herbert finding Hampton in the end zone for 6.

WHAT’S NEXT: Chargers 

The Chargers are in Wild Card position now, but don’t have much room for error over the next month. They have a brutal schedule to end the season, starting tonight with the Eagles. Then they head to KC with a chance to end the Chiefs playoff chances in Arrowhead. After that they will go to Dallas to take on a Cowboys team that will most likely be desperate to stay in the playoff picture. LA return home the next week for a game against the Houston Texans who are looking for either a Wild Card birth or the AFC South lead. Then the Chargers will end the season in Denver with a divisional showdown against the Broncos who might be fighting for the one seed heading into the playoffs. It’s not going to be easy for the Chargers who’s brutal schedule stats tonight in LA. 

WHAT’S NEXT: Eagles 

Philly know the best chance they have to get a first round BYE and home field is to win out. Even then they still aren’t guaranteed anything but they have the Chargers tonight, then play the Raiders at home which should be pretty easy. They hit the road for games against the Commanders and a huge match up in Buffalo against the Bills. Then return home to finish off the season against the Washington Commanders in Week 18. 

Saquon's down year

What in the world is up with Saquon? Last year’s Offensive Player of the Year who ran for over 2,000 yards has just 740 yards through 12 weeks, and may not get to 1,000 yards on the season. He has just 4 TD rushes and is averaging less than 4 yards per carry. It has been an especially difficult transition for Saquon under offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo’s scheme and if the Eagles are going to have a chance to repeat they are going to need to figure out how to correct the run game.

Justin Herbert has been battling an injury on his non throwing hand for the last week after injuring it against the Raiders last Sunday. He had surgery on his non throwing had but has claimed all week that he plans to play. He was listed as questionable all week, but if there is one thing you can’t question it’s Herbert’s toughness. He has fought through injury his entire career and tonight will probably be no different. 

NFC Standings

In the NFC, the Eagles are sitting comfortably at the top of the NFC East at 8-4. The Cowboys will have it awfully difficult to take that spot from them at 6-6-1 after the weekend, so the Eagles are now eyeing a one seed heading into the playoffs. The Rams currently are hanging on to the top spot in the conference with a record of 10-3, but since the Eagles beat the Rams early in the season they would hold the tie break if those teams went into the postseason with the same record. Then you have the Packers who are 9-3-1 and the Chicago Bears who are 9-4. It’s going to come down to the wire in the NFC, and the Eagles know they have to keep winning for a chance at a first round BYE and home field advantage in the playoffs. 

AFC Standings

Taking a look a the AFC Standings we see the Chargers nestled in 2nd place in the West. That puts them in Wild Card position at the moment but there is not much margin for error. The Bills are 9-4 and have one of those spots occupied at the moment, meanwhile the Texans are 8-5 and so are the Colts but they just lost their starting QB and look to be in a difficult situation heading into the final stretch of the season. The Ravens and the Dolphins and the Chiefs are on the outside looking in but still have an outside shot at a Wild Card spot. 

Star watch: Chargers 

The LA Chargers have been waiting for Justin Herbert and the offense to live up to their potential, and it may be happening this year. There have been some ups and downs this year but Justin Herbert is doing enough to have the Chargers in the playoff mix with a month left to go in the season. His numbers aren’t going to blow you away, he’s got 2,842 yards with 21 TDs and 10 INTs but he’s completing 67% of his passes. The numbers maybe aren’t exactly what we expected with Herbert playing under Jim Harbaugh. 

Star watch: Eagles 

The Eagles are 8-4 and seem to be in pretty good position despite no one really playing up to their full potential on the offensive side of the ball. Jalen Hurts has been extremely efficient but the pass game has been awfully underwhelming. He does have 19 TDs and just 2 INTs, but that’s just over 1.5 TDs a game and just over 200 yards a game. They aren’t huge numbers but they are enough to have the Eagles in great position to win their division. Unfortunately for Hurts, Philly’s demanding fan base wants to see him air it out more often. 

Chargers last game

The Chargers had a division matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders and LA’s QB Justin Herbert had to fight through a hand injury on his non throwing hand, and it turned out to be an easy day for the Chargers against one of the worst teams in the league. It was a quite first half as the Chargers went into to half tied 7-7 but a Kimani Vidal 59 yard TD run put LA up and then Herbert connected on his second TD pass, this time to Ladd McConkey to stretch the lead to 21-7 with a couple minutes left in the third quarter. They would cruise to victory the rest of the way. 

Eagles last game 

Philly had a Black Friday matchup against the Chicago Bears and it was the Bears who beat Philly at their own game. They were physical, they were tough and they pushed the Eagles around especially on the ground. Chicago ran for 281 yards and two TDs on the shoulders of Kyle Monangai and D’Andre Swift who each had over 125 yards rushing. It was 10-3 at the half with the Bears up but Phillly kicked a couple field goals to close the gap to 10-9. The key moment came when the Eagles were driving with a chance to take the lead but Jalen Hurts fumbled a tush push and the Bears turned that into a TD 12 plays later. Caleb Williams would seal the game with a 28 yard TD pass to Cole Kmet to put the Bears up 24-15 with 6 minutes to go.

Hello everyone and welcome to Sofi Stadium where the Chargers home for a second straight week after beating the Las Vegas Raiders. They have been a bit off the radar but they are 8-4 and are in the thick of the playoff hunt, but it’s looking like the Chargers will have to fend off the other teams in the AFC that are looking for a Wild Card spot. The Eagles have are coming off back to back losses for the second time this year, and they know they have to keep winning to stay ahead in the NFC East and in the race for the one seed heading into the playoffs. 

Eagles vs. Chargers
