Eagles 33 vs 36 Commanders summary, stats, summary and highlights | NFL Week 16
Coach Quinn let them know loud and clear, to be the best you have to beat the best. This was a game that Philly needed and Washington somehow someway came out with the win. They needed this win to help get into the playoffs, but they needed this win for when the playoffs come and they know they can beat good teams when the odds are against them.

The Rookie QB got the ball back from the WAS 43 with one timeout left and gave his masterpiece of his debut season. He drove his team down the field with a mix of passes and scrambles, managing the clock perfectly and setting up this game winning TD pass, his fifth of the day with 6 seconds on the clock.
Daniels had 258 yards, 5 TDs and 2 INTs on 24/39 passing and most certainly sealed his Rookie of the Year award, but more importantly keeps the Commanders in the final Wild Card spot in the NFC. The Eagles' ten game win streak came to an end but they will be more concerned with the status of their QB and letting the one seed potentially slip through their fingers in the final weeks of the season.
Cargando...
On a massive 3rd and 5 that could have closed out of game DeVonta Smith dropped a wide open cach that would have been good for a first down and good enough to hold off the Commanders. He dropped it and in stepped the rookie to win the game on the biggest drive of the season.
Cargando...
Daniels threw his second pick of the game trying to get his team into field goal range and the Eagles took over deep in WAS territory, but Philly wasn't able to close out the game after the the INT from Blakenship.
Cargando...
Despite the collapse, the Eagles still managed to take the lead with a 50 yard field goal from Jake Elliott with just under 4 minutes to go. There was still plenty more action to come form Northwest Stadium.
Cargando...
The Eagles defense collapsed on a day that PHI needed them to step up with their starting QB sidelined. Plays like this cost them the game as Zaccheaus was left wide open for the 50 yard catch and run for a TD to give the Commander the one point lead.
Cargando...
A couple plays after the run, it was Olamide Zachheaus cutting it to a one score game. It was wild, even though they kept turning the ball over there was always a feeling that the Commanders were going to get back into the game. One thing is to feel it, another thing is to do it.
Cargando...
Daniels threw and interception on one side of the half and Brown would fumble on the other side of the break, allowing the Eagles to go up 13 with two Jake Elliiott field goals, but Daniels showed his resilience with his arms and his legs. He took this one for 30 yards on a day that he had 81 yards rushing.
Cargando...
The Commanders defense would hold strong and Daniels connected on two long passes the first to Dyami Brown for 51 yards to start the drive and this one to Terry McLaurin for a 32 yard TD.
Cargando...
Washington was marching down the field following the long Barkley TD but Cooper DeJean came up with another massive play forcing and recovering the fumble in the red zone.
Cargando...
Two plays after the Commanders put points on the board, Saquon Barkley did was Saquon Barkley does. He broke a run for 68 yards and a TD to end the first quarter with 109 yards and two TDs. He would end the game with just 150 yards on 29 carries, as the Commanders defense started to lock him up after this play.
Cargando...
Daniels took a little while to get going but once he did there was no slowing him down. He connected with Jamison Crowder on their first of two big TD hook ups to put the Commanders on the board.
Cargando...
The Commanders would finally show some signs of life, but it took the defense to make a play. It was Frankie Luvu who duped PIckett into throwing the ball and made the pick that would set up Daniels with great field position.
Cargando...
The Eagles would turn that turnover into a touchdown for a second straight drive as Kenny Pickett came into the game and connected with AJ Brown for a five yard TD connection to calm the nerves of Philly fans.
Cargando...
Things got off to a great start, but the first sign of trouble for the short and long term came when Jalen Hurts was knocked out of the game after taking a big hit on this QB scramble.
Cargando...
The Commanders would give the ball away for a second straight possession when Nolan Smith stripped Brian Robinson on the next play from scrimmage.
Cargando...
What a wild game in what was a must win for both teams from Washington. The Commanders turned the ball over five times but their rookie QB Jayden Daniels had a heroic performance to overcome the turnovers and keep his team in Wild Card position.
It was the Eagles who came out throwing knockout punches, stopping Washington on a 4th down conversion to open the game, and Saquon Barkley would punish the early mistake with four runs for 34 yards and this TD rush to put the first points on the board.
Cargando...
Jayden Daniels wins it at the death with his fifth TD of the day. This one was his second to Jamison Crowder.
Cargando...

Gorgeous day for a showdown
It's a beautiful day for football in Landover. The Commanders are looking to keep their cushion over the top of the Wild Card chasers, but Jayden Daniels is going to have to come up with his first signature win today against a team he is going to see an awful lot over the course of his career. The Eagles know what's on the line. Win today and the one seed is a very real possibility. Lose and it gets awfully complicated to have home field throughout the playoffs.

NFC Standings
Ok, let’s try and break this down cause it can get a little confusing. There is a three way tie for the top spot in the NFC at 12-2 between the Lions, Eagles and Vikings. The Lions and Vikings have what could be a conference defining game to end the season in Week 18. If the Lions win out, they get the top spot and home field advantage. If the Vikings and Eagles win out then it will come down to a strength of victory tie beak which is the fourth category of tie breaker, because the first three would be a wash. Now that that’s settled, let’s look at the Wild Card race. The Vikings and Lions will be in the playoffs and Packers will most likely be there two although their two game lead over the 8-6 Seahawks isn’t enough to clinch them a spot just yet. If the Commanders win out, they are in, but if they lose today and the Seahawks win they would draw level with Washington. Next week the Falcons and the Commanders have a huge game and that could be a deciding factor in who comes out of the NFC with the third Wild Card spot.
Last meeting
These two teams met for the first time back in mid November. It was a low scoring first half in which the Commanders went to the break up 7-3 after a Brian Robinson 1 yard TD run in the 1st quarter and a Jake Elliott field goal right before the end of the second quarter. The Eagles offense would come to life in the fourth quarter first with a Jalen Hurts tush push and then Saquon Barkley would take the keys to the car and drive Philly to the finish line. First with a 23 yard rushing TD, and after the defense picked off Daniels on the next play, he would go for a 39 yard TD to shut the door on the Commanders.

Star watch: Commanders
Jayden Daniels was taken as the second QB in the NFL Draft, and he was supposedly going to the worse team in he Commanders than the No. 1 pick ws going to in the Bears. That hasn’t been the case at all. Daniels has been the best looking rookie all year long and he is on track to win the Rookie of the Year. This season he has passed for 3,045 yards, 17 TDs and 6 INTs and ran for another 656 yard with 6 TDs. He can do himself a big favor in the ROY voting if he wins the rest of the Commanders games and carries his team to the playoffs, something that rookie Bo Nix has already done.

Star watch: Eagles
Philly had a deep arsenal of weapons even before this season started. Jalen Hurts had a couple of top receivers, and a running game that was always at the top of the statistical categories, but bringing in Saquon Barkley has converted this team to a good one to a great one. Barkley sent warning sings around the league in the first game of the season when he went for 109 yards and two TDs against the Packers. All he has done since then is put his name in the top two favorites in the MVP odds leaderboard and has a chance to break the the single season rushing record. Coming into today, he has 1,688 rushing yards and 11 TDs. To break Erick Dickerson’s record of of 2,105 yards he would need 417 yards in the next three games. That means he would need to average 139 yards to break the record, but that would be with one extra game considering Dickerson did it in just 16 games back in 1984.

Season recap: Commanders
After another disappointing season in the nation’s capital, the Commanders fired their coach and brought in a new face of the franchise with their No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft. With Dan Quinn on the sidelines and Jayden Daniels under center there has been a a revolution in DC. At one point Daniels was in the MVP conversation, and had the Commanders in the hunt for the top seed in the NFC. They were 7-2 after the first half of the season and only lost to the Bucs in Week 1 and the Ravens by a TD. Tough games against the Steelers and the Eagles, and an unexpected loss to the Cowboys brought the Commanders a dose of reality but they have rebounded with back to back wins to hang on to their Wild Card spot. It’s not a comfortable lead, so Washington is going to have to keep winning if they are going to have a chance to get back to the post season for the first time since 2020.

Season recap: Philly
The Eagles came into the season with a lot of question marks following their late season collapse that led to a change in their defensive and offensive coordinator. They won their season opener in Sao Paolo against the Packers, but would lose two of their next three to and all of the sudden there was concern in the City of Brotherly Love. Since then they have rattled off 10 in a row as Saquon Barkley has established himself as not just a super star but an MVP candidate. Five of those ten wins have come in one possession games, but Hurts, Barkley and the Eagles have done enough to join the three team race for the one seed for the final stretch of the season.

Last game: Commanders
It was all going perfectly for the Commanders in their game from New Orleans through the first 30 minutes. After coming off of their last season BYE, the Commanders came out swinging in the first half. Jayden Daniels threw two TD passes to Terry McLaurin in each quarter while the defense held the Saints to just 26 yards in the first half. New Orleans would make a change at QB, and Spencer Rattler almost made a a miraculous come back with their rookie under center. New Orleans scored on each of their four second half possessions and on the last play of the 4th quarter Rattler hit Moreau on a 1 yard TD to close the gap to 20-19. The Saints went for the win and the two point conversion but Rattler’s pass to Johnson fell incomplete and the Commanders held on for the win and held on to their slim lead in the Wild Card race.

Last game: Eagles
The Eagles hosted the Steelers in the an interstate battle between two teams near the top of their respective conferences. The Eagles were on a 9 game winning streak, but still faced some doubts surrounding the state of their passing game and the relationship between their QB and their top WR. A lot of those doubts were silenced as Jalen Hurts passed for 290 yards and two TD passes, 110 of those yards and 1 of those TDs to AJ Brown to show there are no problems between the two Philly stars. It was 17-13 heading into halftime, but the Eagles dominated the second half of the game, possessing the ball for 24 of the 30 minutes in the final two quarters, and allowing just 52 yards on 11 Steelers plays. A Jalen Hurts tush push extended the the lead to 27-13 and Philly would end the game with a 22 play, 10 minute drive that drained the clock down to 00:00.
