Oh how the mighty have fallen. It may seem incredible to anyone who has watched the NFL over the past two decades, but the New England Patriots are coming into their week 1 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles as the underdog.

No, that is an understatement. The Patriots have a steep hill to climb and will need something miraculous to happen if they want to beat the defending NFC champions.

Philadelphia Eagles

Last season, the Eagles fell short in the Super Bowl after romping to the NFC title, and this season they have a loaded roster that makes them the conference favorites to repeat in January. Jalen Hurts signed an enormous contract extension that sees him become the franchise quarterback, setting the Eagles up for a legacy building period over the next five seasons.

New England Patriots

Bill Belichick has struggled mightily to repeat the success that he enjoyed so frequently over the past three decades. With his play-calling genius on both sides of the ball, he has been the poster child for the Midas touch, winning with the Giants, making miracles happen with the Browns, and then establishing a dynasty at Foxborough.

But last season saw the Patriots struggle offensively and with Mac Jones under center, the Pats are looking to build their offense under Bill O’Brien’s coordination.

Odds and Moneyline

  • Spread: Eagles (-4)
  • Moneyline: Eagles (-190); Patriots (+155)
  • Over/under: 45

Eagles vs Patriots: Predictions

Both teams have impressively stingy defenses but the real division between these two is on the offensive side of the ball. The Patriots are still looking to find a spark while the Eagles are a fully-formed, high-octane scoring machine. Jalen Hurts and his receiving corps are championship caliber already.

While the Patriots defense will keep this from being a runaway win, the Eagles should easily cover the spread. Our pick here?
