Today's odds
These two teams are about as evenly matched as you can get. Two great running backs, two great quarterbacks. Philly might have the edge defensively, but Lamar Jackson will have something to say about that. The Ravens are at home, and that might give them the edge according to the odds makers. Baltimore is a 2.5 point favorite and the Over/Under is 51.
I like the Ravens in this game. They are back home knowing they don’t have much room for error in the AFC North. The Eagles haven’t played a team like the Ravens in a long time, and I think they get a reality check today from M&T Bank Stadium.
Ravens win 27-19.
NFL Standings
This is a massive game for both teams in their respective division and conference races. The Ravens are more worried about winning the AFC North after losing a few too many games to realistically think about the one seed in the conference. The Steelers had a tough game against the Bengals earlier today, and it looks like Pittsburgh is going to keep their lead at the top of the table. The Eagles are hot on the heels of the Detroit Lions who just squeaked past the Bears to stay at one loss and keep their cushion over the rest of the pack. PHI and MIN (for now) are right there, with two losses, and are waiting for any mistake from the Lions so they can pounce into the one seed.
Star watch: Eagles
If anyone is having a better season than Derrick Henry in Baltimore, that would be Saquon Barkley in Philly. The electric running back that had been stuck in purgatory for the last few years with the Giants finally got out of that dumpster fire and joined a good team and made them great. He showed us signs of how good he was going to be in the season opener against the Packers down in Brazil, but I’m not sure anyone, not even in Philly, was ready for what was to come. He has been sensational. Barkley is leading the league in rushing yards with 1,392 yards, averaging 6.2 yards a carry and has 10 TDs including 2 of those in his 255 yard game last week against the Rams. He is in the MVP conversation which is rare for anyone not a QB, especially this deep in the season, and if he continues to produce magic, and the Eagles continue to win, he’s got a serious shot at winning the award.
Star watch: Ravens
This match up is all about the running backs. Two of the best running backs in the league found new homes this offseason, and both are having maybe the best season of their career. Derrick Henry has been around a little longer than Saquon Barkley, and after years of being the NFL’s most dominant rusher, he left the only home he’d ever known for Baltimore. The question was, does he still have it after a couple of down seasons in Tennessee? He has resoundingly answered that question in the first 12 games of the season. He is averaging six yards a carry, has 1,325 yards and 13 rushing TDs. When Henry gets the 20 or more rushes in a game the Ravens are undefeated. When the Ravens don’t hand it off to the King 20 times or more, the Ravens are 3-4.
Season recap: Eagles
There was a lot of uncertainty coming into this season after the Eagles late season collapse last year. They got rid of their offensive and defensive coordinators, and most importantly they brought in Saquon Barkley. You could see Barkley was going to have a big impact this season from the very first game down in Brazil when the Eagles beat the Packers in Week 1. The lost two of their next three to ATL and TB, but after their loss to Tampa Bay they have been perfect. Injuries to AJ Brown and Devonta Smith stunted the offense a bit, but when they came back things started rolling. They have won seven straight, but there was only one team over .500 during their streak that spans back to the middle of October. Today they not only go up against a team that is over .500, they go up against a team that is looking to bring a Super Bowl back to Baltimore.
Season recap: Ravens
The Ravens came into the season with high hopes of knocking the Chiefs off their throne in the AFC. They got an early shot at them in Week 1 and lost that game by the length of an Isaiah Likely toe. They would inexplicably lose to the Raiders the next week, blowing a late double digit lead but then the ship started to straighten as Derrick Henry became more and more of a staple of the offense. They would rattle off five in a row against good teams, but then the Browns stunned them in Jameis Winston’s return to being a starting QB in the NFL. A bounce back against Denver and a narrow win over Cincy set up a big match up with PIT at the top of the AFC North, and the Ravens came up just short in a blood bath of a divisional game. Their four losses have come by a total of 17 points, but four losses is too many for a team that was hoping for home field.
Last game: Ravens
The Ravens also went into LA last week for a primetime match up and they dominated the Chargers from start to finish. They looked like the team that most people thought they would look like all season. Sometimes that hasn’t been the case, but last week in Sofi it was. LA marched down the field and scored the first TD, and the Chargers went up 10-0 at the beginning of the second quarter, but the Ravens would come storming back. Once the offense got going, on the shoulders of Derrick Henry, Baltimore scored on their next five straight possessions with four of those possessions ending in touchdowns. Jackson rushed for a TD and then found Rashod Bateman with a 40 yard heave down the field to go into halftime up 14-13. Jackson would hit Andrews in the back of the end zone on a 3rd down play and Justice Hill broke off a 51 yard run to close out the game but it was Derrick Henry who set the tone all night. He went for 140 yards on 26 carries as the Ravens moved to 8-4, just a half game back of the Steelers.
Last game: Eagles
Philly went into LA last Sunday night and let Saquon Barkley loose. He went wild going for 255 yards and a two TDs as he and the Eagles front line dominated the Rams from Sofi Stadium. The Eagles led just 13-7 at halftime but Barkley busted the game open with a couple of 70 yard runs to sink the Rams and keep the Eagles streak alive. Jalen Hurts had 179 TDs and the defense kept LA’s potent WRs quite for most of the game, but the night belonged to Saquon. He is now in the MVP short list after a couple of absolutely monster games.
We are live from M&T Bank Stadium
Hello everyone and welcome to Baltimore where the Ravens are back home after getting a huge went out west last Monday night. They went into LA and beat up the LA Chargers in a primetime battle of top AFC teams. They needed the win desperately after losing to the Steelers the week before and now they are breathing down Pittsburgh’s neck for the top spot in the division. The Eagles are one of the hottest team in the league and they are hanging tight in the race for the one seed in the NFC. They have rattled off seven straight wins thanks to some brilliant performances from their star running back Saquon Barkley who has drawn considerable MVP attention after the last month of games. It’s the Eagles and the Ravens in a huge Week 13 matchup that could help shape the playoff picture in both conferences.
