A statement from the Baltimore Ravens has confirmed the tragic passing of Arthur Jones, a defensive lineman who spent four seasons with the team.
The NFL is mourning the death of former player Arthur Jones, who passed away at the age of 39 on Friday.
Jones, a defensive tackle, is best-known for his time with the Baltimore Ravens and for his role in the Super Bowl XLVII championship team. He spent four years with the Ravens, from 2010-2013, and general manager Eric DeCosta paid tribute to Jones.
“We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing,” DeCosta said. “Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others. He was kind, courteous and enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates and friends.”
Jones played a key role in the 2013 Super Bowl, triumph, notably sacking San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. He also claimed a fumble recovery in the 34-31 victory.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who has been in charge since 2008, said of Jones: “He had a genuine gift for connecting with people, bringing joy to the locker room and beyond, and his presence was a source of light within our team and the Baltimore community. Art’s positive energy and infectious enthusiasm made him a beloved part of our organization. My deepest sympathies and prayers are with Art’s family. May his legacy of kindness live on, and may he rest in peace.”
After his time with the Ravens, Jones went on to spend two years in Indianapolis and one in Washington in 2017.
