Fan sues Los Angeles Chargers with game vs Chiefs set to be played in Brazil
Chargers fan Devin Abney has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County for what he claims is a ‘breach of contract and false advertising’.

The 2025 NFL season will see seven international games staged in five different countries, and the first of these will be in São Paulo, Brazil, when the Kansas City Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers at Corinthians Arena in Week 1. However, that has created a problem for some Chargers fans with the LA based team as they are designated as the home team for this game in Brazil.
Due to the game in São Paulo, Bolts fans will have one less game in a short 17 game regular season (with teams only playing 8-9 games at home) at SoFi Stadium in 2025 and this has prompted one fan to sue the team.

Devin Abney filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of the State of California in the County of Los Angeles against the LA Chargers alleging violations of the California Consumer Remedies Act, California unfair competition law, California false advertising law, and breach of contract.

Abney alleges in the lawsuit that the Chargers offer season ticket holders a ticket package for eight or nine home games and one to two preseason games, depending on the schedule. However, the team modified its advertising from February through June by removing the Chiefs logo for games at SoFi Stadium. They also replaced it with the logo of the New Orleans Saints, one of the teams they were scheduled to face in the preseason.
The problem is that the season ticket for all Chargers games has increased by 10% compared to the 2024 season and there would be one less game for the game against the Chiefs in Brazil to kick off the 2025 season.

The lawsuit also alleges that the Chargers did not allow season ticket holders to cancel their tickets and receive a refund, meaning their prior payments were forfeited. The document obtained by Front Office Sports explains that one of the ticket purchase policies states that if a game is not played at SoFi Stadium or is canceled without rescheduling, a refund of the original ticket price must be issued. The lawsuit also contrasted the fact that the Indianapolis Colts will issue refunds or credits for their international game which is set to be played in Berlin.
Abney part of the Chargers Founders Club
According to the lawsuit, Abney notes that he has been a Chargers season ticket holder since they moved to SoFi Stadium from Dignity Health Sports Park in 2019 and is a member of the team’s Founders Club.
