Update:

For weeks, Vikings fans have been buzzing about the possibility of wide receiver Adam Thielen reuniting with Minnesota. That reunion still hasn’t happened, but the team did make a big roster move this week, and it involves the quarterback room instead.

Everyone expected Adam Thielen… Vikings land Carson Wentz instead

The Vikings traded Sam Howell and a sixth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a fifth and seventh, then immediately filled the open roster spot by signing former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.

Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick back in 2016, has transitioned from starter to veteran backup in recent years, spending time behind Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles and Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. Now, he arrives in Minnesota to mentor second-year QB J.J. McCarthy, who missed his rookie season due to injury.

For Howell, the move marks yet another stop in his young NFL journey. After beginning his career in Washington and making a stop in Seattle, he’ll now join Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee in Philadelphia.

The Vikings may still make other moves, and a Thielen reunion isn’t completely off the table, but for now, it’s Wentz, not the hometown receiver, who’s making headlines in Minnesota.
