Though details are still emerging, what’s certain is that the cornerback who hasn’t played in the NFL in two years, has now found himself on the wrong side of the law and for reasons that definitely raise eyebrows to say the least.

Bashaud Breeland arrested on multiple felony charges

According to reports this week, Bashaud Breeland, a cornerback who played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings, has been arrested in North Carolina on numerous felony charges. It is understood, that the former Super Bowl champion was booked at Mecklenburg County Jail at approximately 2:12 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Among the eight charges that he faces, there is possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of two different types of illegal drugs.

As per reports, the 8-year NFL veteran was detained as a result of a traffic stop on Monday, after police found several illegal items, including the car itself. Indeed, a police report stated that Breeland was driving a stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV containing multiple guns, such as two AR-15s and two AK-47s. Understandably, officers seized the weapons and the vehicle as well as five pounds of marijuana, 62 grams of what are suspected to be mushrooms, and various pieces of drug paraphernalia. The traffic stop is understood to have occurred along North Graham Street on Monday afternoon.

Who is Bashaud Breeland

It’s been almost two years since Breeland has played in the NFL - 2021 to be precise. After being drafted by the Washington Commanders in 2014, he went on to play for the team up until the end of the 2017 season, appearing in a total of 60 games of which he started 57. The 31-year-old then put pen to paper on a three-year, $24 million deal with the Carolina Panthers ahead of the 2018 season, however, the deal was voided after Breeland failed his physical due to a non-football injury. Next up was a brief stint with the Packers, before joining the Chiefs in 2019. Breeland would go on to be part of the team that defeated the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl that season. Incidentally, the Chiefs re-signed Breeland in 2020, but shortly after he was suspended by the NFL for four games after violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Though he made a few appearances following his suspension, the Chiefs released him at the end of the season, which finally led him to the Vikings in 2021. He’s not played in a game since joining the team. Regarding Breeland’s current status, reports indicate that he was released on $30,000 bail at approximately 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
