Update:

The Dallas Cowboys have traveled back home after finishing up the first part of their training camp in Oxnard, California. Tonight, they host the Baltimore Ravens in their second preseason game. This one will have an added layer of intrigue as their former backup quarterback Cooper Rush will starting for the opposing team.

Cooper Rush breaks silence on leaving the Cowboys

As he prepares to face his former team, Rush has opened up about his Cowboys exit. After seven years in Dallas, where he went 9-5 as a fill-in for Dak Prescott, Rush signed with Baltimore in free agency, calling it “a really good place to be” with plenty of talent around him.

“...just a chance to go on a really good team that if you’ve got to go in [the game], you can go do it and win games, important games [for] a team that’s in it and a team that’s got tons of weapons at every position,“ said Rush. ”All [of] those [reasons] go into it.“

During his time in Dallas, Rush had 14 total starts and threw for 3,463 yards, 20 touchdowns, and completed 60.7% of his passes. He said he’s looking forward to facing the Cowboys and seeing his old teammates at AT&T Stadium.

“It’ll be different over on that sideline,” said Rush. “It’ll be something new, but looking forward to it. See a lot of close relationships over the years there, get to catch up with some guys. It’ll be cool.”

Rush also reflected on missing out on a $250,000 bonus last season, when Dallas turned to Trey Lance instead of starting him in the finale. Still, he insists there are “no hard feelings” and says his focus is on proving himself with the Ravens.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys will give rookie Joe Milton another long look as they continue evaluating who will back up Prescott this year.
