Update:

Former Dallas Cowboys star Marcus Spears says the Buffalo Bills are the team to beat in the NFL this season, after Sean McDermott’s men continued their 100% start to the campaign with victory in midweek.

Bills still perfect after defeating Dolphins

The Bills moved to 3-0 with a 31-21 win over divisional rivals the Miami Dolphins in Thursday Night Football, having defeated the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets in their first two games of the regular season.

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show on Friday, Spears pointed to the Bills as the pick of the NFL bunch, despite his deep admiration for the Ravens.

The ESPN analyst explained that the Bills’ dramatic Week 1 comeback win in Baltimore, where Matt Prater’s last-gasp field goal secured a 41-40 victory, is why he gives Buffalo the edge over the Ravens.

“The best team in the NFL”

I think [the Bills] are the best team in the NFL,” Spears told Eisen. “And, look, I don’t say that easily, because I think the Baltimore Ravens are still right there. But obviously you’ve got to give [the Bills] the benefit of the doubt for being able to come back and win that game.

“And I think that’s the only reason that I would put Buffalo at No. 1 - or, for me, it would be Baltimore. Baltimore, when they’re dominant, they look more dominant than anybody, in my opinion - even in that Buffalo game, for a large majority of it.”

Noting that the Bills’ excellence “speaks to the brilliance” of head coach McDermott, Spears also singled out Buffalo’s offensive coordinator, Joe Brady, for praise.

I don’t think this guy gets enough credit for what he’s been able to do and get [star quarterback] Josh Allen to buy into,” Spears said.

The Bills and the Ravens are the bookmakers’ joint favorites to win Super Bowl LX next February. The two teams both have moneyline odds of +500 to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy at Levi’s Stadium, per Oddschecker.

Now in their ninth season under McDermott, the Bills are bidding to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in 31 years. The franchise, which lost four straight NFL title games between 1990 and 1993, has never won a championship in the Super Bowl era.

When is the Bills’ next game?

The Bills are next in action when they host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, September 28. The Week 4 matchup at Highmark Stadium is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT.
