Former Eagles star blames Jalen Hurts after Philadelphia’s Wild Card exit: “He can’t really do it”
LeSean McCoy points to alleged internal concerns about Hurts’ limitations after the Eagles’ season ended abruptly against the 49ers.

The postmortem has begun in Philadelphia after the Eagles’ hopes of winning back-to-back Super Bowls for the first time were dashed by Sunday’s Wild Card round defeat to the San Francisco 49ers. And one former star believes quarterback Jalen Hurts is to blame for the team’s struggles, based on what he claims is inside information.
McCoy points the finger at Hurts
Ex-Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, who spent five seasons in Philadelphia from 2009 to 2014, tore into Hurts when asked to put his finger on what was causing the Eagles’ offensive issues during an appearance on the Speakeasy late night sports show.
“Jalen Hurts, I’ve got to be honest… Jalen Hurts, I need you to be special. Make plays,” began McCoy, who won Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.
The 37-year-old, who hails from Pennsylvania, then suggested people within the organization had spoken to him about their concerns regarding Hurts’ adaptability on the field, or lack thereof.
“I did a lot of digging, and I don’t want to throw him under the bus here, but I know some people and the problem is, we can’t do different exotic looks, different formations, different motions because I’m hearing he can’t really do it.”

Hurts unable to repeat Super Bowl heroics
Hurts, of course, was the MVP in the Eagles’ convincing win over the Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX, but he is rarely mentioned when conversations turn to the NFL’s very top quarterbacks. Naysayers have regularly criticized his passing numbers, which generally have not been as prolific as those of other elite QBs.
While Philadelphia’s defense and running game are considered team strengths, the passing attack is frequently cited as a weakness. That falls partly on Hurts, though not exclusively.
Despite boasting plenty of offensive talent, the Eagles ranked close to the bottom of the league in most major offensive categories this season. Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, in his first year as play-caller, will almost certainly pay the price, which would at least make one young fan in Philadelphia very happy.
