Former NFL defensive end Robert Quinn turns himself into police. What did he do?
The former NFL defensive end is connected with some serious charges but to his credit, he didn’t wait for law enforcement officers to come looking for him.
By the looks of things, the one-time Browns and Eagles DE may be guilty of some rather sinister acts. While it remains to be seen what his motivation was, it can’t bode well for any future he hoped to have in the league.
What did Robert Quinn do?
According to reports on Friday, Former NFL defensive end Robert Quinn turned himself into police in Summerville, South Carolina, on charges of assault and battery and hit and run. Quinn, who played for both the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles last season has been accused of driving his car off the road and into several cars on Tuesday. In addition, the 33-year-old former Tar Heel is accused of striking a woman in the face with his open hand. To that end, Quinn is reportedly being charged with one count of third-degree felony assault and battery, four counts of hit and run of an unattended vehicle, one count of hit and run of an attended vehicle, and one count of striking fixtures on or near a highway.
To be clear, allegations suggest that Quinn hit multiple cars one of which was occupied by a woman, who approached Quinn after the collision. “He kept saying, ‘Oh, don’t worry about it I’ll buy you new cars, I’ll buy you new cars, let’s go to the dealership,’” the unnamed woman said. “I told him to get off my property and he proceeded to put his hands on me and slap me not once but twice.” Following the incident, Quinn reportedly got back into his vehicle at which point he hit yet another car, and then proceeded to get out of his car before fleeing the scene on foot. As per a police report, not only did the ensuing search fail to locate Quinn, but a “partially empty” bottle of alcohol was found in the vehicle.
Who is Robert Quinn?
A promising product out of North Carolina, Quinn was selected by the then-St. Louis Rams with the No. 14 overall pick back in the NFL Draft of 2011. He would spend seven solid seasons with the Rams during which time his performances garnered him with a spot on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2015 (44th). Ahead of the 2018 season, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins where he would spend just one season, but it was a good one as he finished with a team-leading 6.5 sacks, to go with 38 tackles and two forced fumbles. 2019 saw a move to the Dallas Cowboys where he would spend just one season - a decent one - before a trade to the Chicago Bears in April of 2020. His two-year stint in Chicago saw him selected to his third Pro Bowl while setting a new single-season sack record for the franchise with 18 sacks in total.
This of course brings us to his most recent stop which was the Philadelphia Eagles who acquired him in October of 2022, however, just two days later both Quinn and the franchise mutually agreed to void the final two years of his contract making him eligible for free agency the following season. Though he did make it to the Super Bowl with the Eagles, the team lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs. At present Quinn has not been signed by any team and remains without a contract.
