Update:

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez, now a color analyst for Fox and Fox Sports 1, was stabbed in Indianapolis, where he was scheduled to call Sunday’s Week 5 game between the Colts and Raiders on October 5.

Mark Sanchez stabbed: condition update

According to Fox, Sanchez, who was first reported to be in critical condition, is now stable and recovering. The 38-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital immediately after the incident.

Police confirm suspect in custody

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded to a disturbance in downtown Indianapolis around 12:30 a.m. local time, in which two people were injured, including Sanchez. Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been detained.

Fox issues statement on Sanchez’s recovery

“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in a stable condition,” Fox said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

Mark Sanchez’s career path

Sanchez was selected as the fifth pick in the first round of the 2009 draft by the New York Jets, for whom he was the starting quarterback for four seasons. He then had spells with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins before retiring in July 2019.

The Californian immediately joined ESPN’s football coverage before switching to Fox in 2021.
