Former NFL player Sergio Brown missing & mother found dead. What do we make of it?
According to multiple reports this week, police in the Chicago suburb of Maywood have indicated that former NFL defensive back, Sergio Brown, is not only missing, but his mother’s dead body has been discovered close to a creek near her home. As per reports, the Maywood Police Department ruled the death of Myrtle Brown, 73, a homicide. Further to that, reports also indicate that police have issued a missing persons report as of Saturday when family members stated that they could no longer locate Brown or his mother.
Subsequently, a search was conducted and as a result, Myrtle Brown’s body was discovered, however, Sergio’s location remains unconfirmed. With regards to Myrtle Brown, the Cook County medical examiner’s officer determined that she suffered multiple injuries during an assault, which in turn led to her death and the conclusion that her cause of death was homicide. No further details have been released, nor has a suspect been named in the case of the death of Myrtle Brown.
So, who is Sergio Brown?
To be fair, further details of the situation have not been reported, and to that end, there is currently no suspect in the death of Myrtle Brown, the mother of the former NFL safety. Ultimately, all we can do for the moment is focus on who Brown was rather that what he’s presently associated with. At 35 years old, Brown is a Maywood native who played in college at Notre Dame, and then moved on to the NFL. The 35-year-old has seen time with a number of teams including the New England Patriots - they were the first to acquire him in 2010 - the Colts, the Jaguars, the Falcons, and finally the Buffalo Bills where he ended his career following the 2016-17 season.

Honestly, we’re not sure. What we can say is that while law enforcement officials do their job, there is still a family that’s dealing with a major blow. “My brother Sergio is still missing,” Nick Brown - brother of Sergio - wrote on Instagram. “If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home,” he stated. Indeed, similar sentiments were also echoed by Carlos Cortez, the neighbor of Myrtle Brown. “Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I’m hoping she’s in the right place and she’s with God,” Cortez said. “I never would’ve expected this in a million years.”
Who is Sergio Brown?
A Notre Dame product, Brown was clearly talented but like many others in the college game, overlooked. That said, the star safety ended up securing an opportunity with the New England Patriots. From there, it was a slow slog as Brown proved himself bit by bit.
