Giants end QB speculation with big call before Cowboys clash
The New York Giants face division rivals Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 and their performance in the season opener left questions about Russell Wilson’s status.

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys will face off in an NFC East battle in Week 2 after both teams lost their season openers. The Cowboys played the Philadelphia Eagles with a closer game than expected, losing by just four points. The Giants, however, suffered a 21-6 beatdown by the Washington Commanders. And quarterback Russell Wilson wasn’t looking so hot.
Giants’ QB controversy stirred and put to rest
Wilson went 17-of-37 for 168 yards with no touchdowns, prompting head coach Brian Daboll to sidestep questions about his starting job. Daboll said they’d “look at our game” when they got back home.
With rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart waiting in the wings, speculation grew that the Giants would consider a change under center for their Cowboys clash.
Giants HC Brian Daboll left it open-ended when asked today whether Russell Wilson or Jaxson Dart will get the start next week vs. Dallas:

"We're going to get home and look at our game.”
Wilson started today and went 17-for-37 for 168 yards and 0 TD in a 21-6 loss to Washington.
But Daboll soon put that controversy to rest, revealing on Monday that Wilson would at least get one more shot. He will be the starter as the Giants face the Cowboys in Dallas this Sunday.

Daboll did admit that the loss to Washington wasn’t completely Wilson’s fault, and expressed confidence in his ability: “This game isn’t on Russell Wilson,” Daboll said. “It’s not on Russell Wilson. Let me make that clear. I have confidence in Russ. We have to do a better job all the way around.”
Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Giants back in March. It makes sense for them to give him at least one more go in Week 2. If he has another showing like he did against the Commanders, however, his job could definitely be in jeopardy as they prepare to face the Kansas City Chiefs in their home opener in Week 3.
