Update:

Following the announcement that Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show, several Republican figures and even President Donald Trump have criticized the choice.

Earlier this week House Speaker Mike Johnson called it a “terrible decision” and questioned why the Puerto Rican had been selected.

I didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was. But from what I’ve heard, I think it’s a terrible decision,” Johnson told reporters on Capitol Hill.

It doesn’t seem like he’s someone who appeals to a broader audience. And there’s so much focus on the Super Bowl, for a lot of young, impressionable kids,” he added. “In my opinion, it would be Lee Greenwood or some role model. Not someone like [Bad Bunny].”

Speaker Johnson was referring to the 82-year-old country star who has performed at several of President Trump’s campaign events.

Several key conservative voices have criticized the choice of Bad Bunny for the halftime show because the Puerto Rican, whose official name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, sings exclusively in Spanish and did not include the United States in his most recent tour.

ICE agents to attend Super Bowl

With tensions running high around the immigration debate, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be “everywhere” for Super Bowl LX. In an appearance on Benny Johnson’s podcast, she stated that ICE has every intention of “enforcing the law” at the sporting event.

“I have a responsibility to make sure that everyone who attends the Super Bowl has a chance to enjoy it and leave. And that’s what America is all about,” Noem said.

Regarding the decision to name Bad Bunny as the performer, she said: “They’re horrible, we will win, and God will bless us. We will stand tall and proud at the end of the day, and they won’t be able to sleep at night because they don’t know what they believe in and they’re so weak. We will fix it.”

Although Bad Bunny has not commented on the possible presence of ICE at the Super Bowl, in an interview with ID he revealed that the decision not to include the United States in his most recent tour was related to concerns that immigration agents would be outside his concerts.

“There were a lot of reasons why I didn’t show up in the United States, and none of them were because of hate [...] But there was the problem that, for example, the damn ICE could be outside. And it’s something that we were talking about and that worried us a lot,” said the singer.
