Green Bay Packers 17 vs 27 Buffalo Bills summary: stats and highlights | NFL Week 8
The Buffalo Bills came out of their bye and breezed past the Green Bay Packers to hand the cheeseheads their fourth straight loss. Jose Allen had threw two first half touchdowns to lead the Bills to the 27-17 victory in Orchard Park.
Believe in Bills out of bye
You’ll have to excuse Aaron Rodgers if Sunday Night’s game didn’t seem like as much of a must see spectacle with the way the Green Bay offense has been struggling. The Bills, on the other hand, have been the can’t miss team of the season, putting up dazzling offensive performance while stifling their opponents of the defensive end.
It was more of the same for the Bills on Sunday night in Orchard Park. Sean McDermott’s side came into Week 8 rested and refreshed after a bye, and the best part of it was they came out of the week off still holding the top record in the AFC.
It may have taken one series for the Bills to get going, but once they found the end zone they kept the score board operator busy for the the whole first half. Buffalo was forced into punting on their first possession, but then scored on their next five drives.
Knox opens flood gates
The first scoring drive was highlighted by a Josh Allen run on 3rd and 15 inside red zone which moved the chains and allowed Allen to hit Dawson Knox for a one yard touchdown pass.
The Packers offense tried a fourth down conversion on their opening drive of the game, but failed which set the tone for Green Bay the rest of the day.
On the opening play of the second quarter the Bills were able to double their lead with a 26 yard strike from Allen to Stefon Diggs to make it 14-0. While it was Allen making the touchdown throws, the meat and potatoes of the offense on Sunday night came on the ground. The Bills rushed for 216 yards, with Devin Singletary leading the way with 67 yards.
Packers pass game a liabilty
Green Bay did get a drive going midway through the first half and they did it on the shoulders of their running backs Adam Jones and AJ Dillon. Jones had 143 yards and Dillon added another 53 but the passing game struggled for yet another week. Other than the 19 yard Aaron Rodgers touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs the Packers passing game was a non factor in the first half.
With the Packers trying to creep back in the game Allen and the Bills landed the knockout blow with a 7 yard Isaiah McKenzie TD run and a field goal to go into half up 24-7.
The Packers would start their second half with a field goal on the opening possession of the third quarter, but against the Bills offense, chipping away three points at a time was never going to work.
Allen throws two rare picks in fourth
The Bills scored on their fifth straight possession when Tyler Bass hit a 38 yard field goal to put the home side back up by three scores.
That would do it for the Bills scoring on Sunday, and the game actually got a little sloppy for Buffalo in the fourth quarter when Allen threw two picks and Rodgers was intercepted once all in a matter of a few minutes.
Rodgers would mount one last comeback bid, but by the time he hit Samori Toure for a 37 yard TD, it was too late. The Bills had built up a comfortable lead and let their top rated defense carry them to victory.
Chiefs, Titans and rest of AFC trailing Bills
Allen had 218 yards and two touchdowns to go along with his two late interceptions, while Aaron Rodgers passed for just 203 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
The Bills sit at the top of the AFC at 6-1, a game clear of Kansas City and Tennessee with 5 wins each. The Packers dropped their fourth straight games and right now Green Bay looks a long way away from a playoff team, especially if Minnesota continues to roll in the NFC North.
Classic case of too little too late for the Packers. Rodgers hit Toure on the 37 yard TD pass, but by that time the game was out of hand. Rodgers ended the night with 203 passing with 2 TDs and 1 INT.

McKenzie on the jet sweep just out of the Two Minute Warning to put the Bills back in control before the break.
Rodgers and the Packers only had one decent drive in the firs two quarters. It ended with this 19 yard reception by Doubs.
Allen to Diggs has to be one of the best tandems in the league. These two know where each other are and what the other is thinking all game long. That's probably why Diggs had 108 yards and a TD on Sunday night.
With everyone expecting him to run after picking up the 3rd down with his legs, he pulls up and drops a floater to Dawson Knox.
There are plays that can define a game. Some come earlier than others. This one came on the Bills second drive and Allen ran for a first down on 3rd and longto set up a TD play shortly after.

Tonight's odds
The Bills are heavy favorites tonight against the Packers. They are 10.5 point favoirtes and the Over/Under is set 47. The Packres are desperate, and 10.5 is a lot of points to give Aaron Rodgers, especially in primetime. I'm taking the Packers plus the points
These are two teams that know how to play in the cold. Fortunately for everyone these two quarterbacks will have perfect conditions tonight from Orchard Park. It's currently partly cloudy and 52 degrees. I'm predicting both QB's go for over 300 yards tonight.
Best thing for us?
After the Packers lost their third straight game last week Aaron Rodgers had to face the media before worrying about facing the Buffalo Bills this week. The four time MVP is coming into tonight’s game against arguably the best team in the league, with a very optimistic stance. No one is giving the Packers a chance according to Green Bay’s QB1, and he thinks that may be the best thing for this team.
Offense defense combo
The Bills come out of their bye with the top ranked offense and the best defense in the league. Buffalo’s defense was top tier last season, but the addition of Von Miller has made this unit even more ferocious. They are giving up a league low 13.5 ppg and just 281.5 yards which is the best in the league.
Allen and the Bills offense have been unstoppable this season. They are averaging a league high 440.8 yards, and scoring 29.3 ppg which is second to only the Kansas City Chiefs.
QB quarrel
Josh Allen came into this season as the MVP favorite, and after seven weeks he has only solidified his position as the frontrunner. If he is to win it this year, he will be dethroning his quarterbacking counterpart tonight in Aaron Rodgers. Allen has passed for 1,980 yards and 17 touchdowns with just four interceptions, while Rodgers has 1,597 yards with 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions after his first seven games.
Can Aaron turn the tides?
Aaron Rodgers has received a load of criticism this year, and the offensive numbers are pretty incriminating. If we are being honest it’s not all on him. His receivers still on the same page with the MVP QB, and the offensive line is not giving him the protection he is used to getting. Tonight he will have to outsmart one of the best defenses in the league with a depleted WR corp and a suspect O line.
Allen's arrival at Orchard Park
If you look at the sports books, Josh Allen is the favorite to win the MVP. If you look at the highlights, Josh Allen is also the favorite to be the MVP. He has had a spectacular season statiscally and in every other facet of the game. His record is almost perfect and the highlights he has given us this year have been nothing short of incredible. He and the Bills come into tonight on an extra weeks rest and an extra weeks preparation for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
Packers plummeting
Green Bay suffered another embarrassment last week, this time at the hands of Tyler Heinicke and the Washington Commanders. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers totaled just 232 yards and ran 25 plays less than the Commanders. After going into the half down 14-10, Washington held the Packers scoreless in the second half until the final three minutes and dropped their third straight to fall to under .500 on the season.
Bills back from bye
The Bills went into the their Week 7 bye as the best team in the AFC after beating the Kansas City Chiefs in what was labeled the game of the regular season. KC and Buffalo combined for over 800 yards of offense and as you would expect in a game between the Chiefs and the Bills, it came down to the final seconds. Josh Allen gave the Bills the late lead when hit Dawson Knox on a 14 yard catch and run with just over a minute to go. On the next play the Bills defense came up with the game sealing pick on Patrick Mahomes to improve to 6-1 on the year.
We are live from Orchard Park
Hello everyone and welcome to Buffalo. These two team could not have had opposite starts to their season. The Buffalo Bills look like the best team in the league coming out of their bye. Josh Allen has been in MVP form and the Bills defense is one of the top units in the league. As good as the Bills have looked, the Packers have looked just as bad. Aaron Rodgers and his receivers have yet to find their rhythm and Green Bay comes into tonight under .500 after seven weeks.
Packers vs. Bills
Sunday comes to a close and the spotlight shines on two of the top quarterbacks in the league. Josh Allen will go toe-to-toe with Aaron Rodgers as the Green Bay Packers head east to take on the Buffalo Bills. AS English will be with you all night providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of tonight’s primetime matchup from Orchard Park.
