Green Bay Packers 36 vs 19 Cincinnati Bengals summary, stats and highlights | NFL
The Green Bay Packers began their post Aaron Rodgers era with about as convincing of a preseason win as you can get. Jordan Love made his first start as the Packers QB1, but the story of the night was the defense. The Green Bay D shut down the Bengals offense, and kept them out of the end zone all night in their 36-19 win.
A lot of Love in Green Bay
The Bengals may not have had Joe Burrow, and even if he was healthy, the Packers probably wouldn’t have seen him. Despite that fact, the Packers defense looked locked in from the start, limiting Cincy’s offense to field goals all night.
Jordan Love waited a long time to get the keys to the Packers offense handed to him, but the third year QB looked poised and comfortable in the pocket and moving out of the tackles in his two drives under center.
He completed five straight passes, all on his second drive which lead to a touchdown when he found Romeo Doubs on a floating touch throw over the defense. He went to the bench after completing seven of his ten passes for 46 yards.
Wilson steals the show
As much as we wanted to talk about Love, rookie Sean Clifford had himself an eventful night once he filled in for Love at QB. He led a TD drive that was finished off by Tyler Goodson’s one yard run, and then bounced back from throwing a pick six with a calm and collected drive that he capped with a short TD pass to Tyler Davis right before the halftime break.
The Bengals started Jake Browning who had a decent night, but never had the Bengals in a position to get into the end zone. Trevor Siemian played all of the second half, and there wasn’t much of a difference for a Bengals side that had 12 first downs in 13 drives. The only bright spot for the Bengals was Evan McPherson who hit all four of his field goals on the night.
Clifford would play until deep into the fourth quarter, helping stretch the lead out while going 20/26 for 208 yards and a TD along with his two interceptions. The star of the night was Emanuel Wilson who ran the ball just six times, but scored an 11 yard TD and an 80 yard TD to finish his night with 111 yards to go along with his two touchdowns.
The Packers will be happy with the win, and the performance of the team, but they will also know the work is just beginning in the post Aaron Rodgers era.
Wilson capped the game off with this 80 yard and showed some serious speed racing down the sideline at the end of the fourth quarter.
Emanuel Wilson might have been the star of the night, going for 111 yards on just 6 carries and scoring two touchdowns.
The Packers defense locked the Bengals down all night, forcing two picks, allowing 12 first downs on 13 drives, and keeping Cincy's offense out of the end zone.
The Bengals offense didn't get in the end zone all night, but Tycen Anderson took this interception back for six after reading the eyes of Clifford.
Tyler Goodson punched in the one yard run, but it was all constructed by Sean Clifford who looked like a natural in his first NFL action.
The moment Packer fans have been waiting for. Jordan Love finally has the keys to the car and he drove the Pack down and finished of the second drive of the night with a beautiful touch pass to Doubs for the opening score of the game.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM CINCY!!!
Joran Love and the Packers get the ball to start the game.
Chase wants Burrow back, but at 100%
Ja’marr Chase knows Burrow being sidelined for the preseason isn’t ideal but he knows that his QB is going to make a big difference if he is healthy at the end of the the season. That’s why he doesn’t want his signal caller rushing back to play before he is ready. He told reporters he doesn’t want Burrow to play Week 1, but not because he doesn’t want him playing, he just wants the face of the franchise to be 100% ready to play when he comes back from his calf strain.
Love takes center stage
After three years of sitting and waiting it’s finally Jordan Love’s turn to take the stage and show what he’s got. The Packers are used to going through uncomfortable transitions at the quarterback position, but they have only had two quarterbacks running the team since 1992. They stick with their guys through thick and thin until their day comes, and then it’s time to start looking toward the future. They did so with Brett Favre, and now they have done it with Aaron Rodgers. The question now is can Jordan Love keep tradition going in the Frozen Tundra.
Burrow KOed for preseason
Joe Burrow suffered a calf sprain early in training camp and will miss tonight’s game and most likely the rest of the preseason. He has had to deal with his fair share of injuries but he’s already shown that he can go through one of the most devastating injuries in all of football, a torn ACL, and come back stronger than ever. This calf strain isn’t going to keep him out as long but it will interrupt his preseason and could knock the Bengals off track for the first few weeks of the season.
Packers new era begins tonight
A new era dawns on the Packers who will be looking to take back control of the NFC North that is looking more and more up for grabs. A lot of attention will be turned on Jordan Love but it will be up to everyone else to step up in the absence Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon will still star in the backfield and Christian Watson is the up and coming star in the Frozen Tundra, but we are unlikely to see many starters tonight.
Bengals back at home
It’s all about Burrow this season, but tonight it won’t be. Tonight is about getting the guys down the depth chart a chance to shine and see which one of these fringe players shows up and shows out in front of the home fans tonight. There will be no Burrow, there will be no Jamaar Chase but there will be QB Trevor Siemian, RB Chris Evans and WR Trenton Irwin on display tonight from Cincy.
Bengals last year
Like this year, there was a lot riding on the Bengals season last year. After making it to the Super Bowl in the previous season, Joe Burrow, Jamaar Chase and Zac Taylor went from underdogs to favorites in the AFC and it took them a while to get used to their new role. They lost their first two and three of their first five games before righting the ship and rattling off 10 of their last 11 games. After beating the Ravens and the Bills, Cincinnati was the favorite in the AFC Championship game but were KOed by a last second field goal by Harrison Butker which lead to more heart break in CIncy.
Packers last season
It was not an easy year for Aaron Rodgers or the Packers last season. After 18 years, the four time MVP finally looked mortal under center and that was largely attributed to the help he had on the offensive side. The Packers didn’t have much depth at the wide receiver position after getting rid of Davante Adams, and Green Bay suffered as a result. The offensive woes made for a long season in which the Packers missed the playoff for the first time since 2018. Now it’s time for a new quarterback to take hold of the team and lead this legendary franchise back to the promise land.
We are live from Cincy
Hello everyone and welcome to Paycor Stadium where all the buzz is centered around the Packers new starting quarterback and the incumbent new era that sits on his shoulders. It’s not easy filling the shoes of a legend of the game, but that will be Love’s role after Aaron Rodgers finally stepped away from Green Bay after nearly two decades. Cincy is already building on a rock solid foundation for a team that has been deep into the playoffs the last three years. Now it’s up to Joe Burrow and the rest of the gang to take this franchise to the next level and bring a title to Cincy for the first time ever.
Packers vs. Bengals live
