Gronkowski makes bold claim about Tom Brady playing into his 50s
Former tight end and teammate of Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, believes the quarterback could not only play in today’s NFL, but dominate well into his 50s.

Former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski believes Tom Brady could still perform at an elite level in today’s NFL, even at 48 years old.
Gronk: “He blew my mind...this guy’s just a machine”
In a recent interview with Covers, Gronkowski said Brady not only remains capable of playing, but could still rank among the league’s best quarterbacks if he returned.
“If he played in the NFL right now, which I swear he still could, he’s the only one that could at the age of 48, and he would be a top-10 quarterback,” Gronkowski said.
The comments come amid ongoing speculation about Brady’s long-term future and whether the seven-time Super Bowl champion could ever consider another comeback.
Tom Brady told @sherman4949 that he asked the NFL about potentially returning as a player while still being a minority owner of the #Raiders.

“I actually have inquired, and they don't like that idea very much. We explored a lot of different things, and I’m very happily retired.” pic.twitter.com/MSiWwbGbGz
Gronkowski went even further, suggesting Brady’s longevity could extend well beyond what has ever been seen in NFL history.
“Hypothetically speaking, I would say until 54 years old,” he added. “This guy is just different. He blew my mind… his arm strength, his accuracy is all still there. I have never seen a come-down with his athletic skills ever. This guy’s just a machine.”

Brady, widely regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time, last played during the 2022 season before stepping away from the game. While he retired at 45, already pushing the limits of quarterback longevity, Gronkowski believes his former teammate’s discipline and preparation could allow him to defy aging entirely.
“He does everything right,” Gronkowski said. “I will attribute it to how disciplined he is, his methods as well… on top of all that, he just has it.”

Despite the praise, the idea of Brady competing deep into his late 40s or even 50s would be unprecedented. No quarterback in NFL history has maintained high-level play at that age, and even Brady’s final seasons showed the natural challenges that come with time.
Still, Gronkowski’s comments reflect the unique aura surrounding Brady’s career, one defined by sustained excellence, durability, and an ability to exceed expectations.
Whether or not another comeback is realistic, the belief from one of Brady’s closest former teammates is clear. If anyone could do it, it would be him.
