Has there ever been a Super Bowl played between two Wild Card teams?
The first round of the postseason is in the books and heading into the Divisional round we have four division winners left and four Wild Cards remaining.

Parity is a priority in the NFL, and right now the league must be loving how things are shaping up in the 2026 postseason. There are no overwhelming favorites coming into the second weekend of the playoffs, and four Wild Cards still have a chance to get to the Super Bowl.
Digesting a crazy Wild Card weekend
Just two of the six home teams took care of business on their home field last weekend. The Chicago Bears were on the brink of being the fifth division champ to lose in Wild Card weekend, but they made a dramatic comeback in the fourth quarter to keep their season alive.
The New England Patriots were the only home team that had a relatively easy time in their first round home playoff game. They took on a Los Angeles Chargers team with a banged up offensive line and pummeled Justin Herbert all night long. They eased to their first playoff win in seven years and now they will take on the top Wild Card team in the AFC.

Heading into the Divisional Round of the playoffs next weekend, we have four Wild Cards still alive and four division winners still eyeing a run to the Super Bowl. We have talked all season about how there is no one great team that is far and wide above the rest of the pack and the first week of the playoffs proved that.
Running Wild to Super Sunday
It’s still a long shot, but the NFL has a chance to witness a historic Super Bowl match up that has never been seen before. It seems that now more than ever, we could have a Super Bowl match up that features two Wild Card teams out of the AFC and NFC.
We have seen Wild Card Super Bowl champs before, but none of those teams were matched up against Wild Card teams from the opposing conference. Seven Wild Cards have won the Super Bowl before, and another four went to the Super Bowl but were beaten on Super Sunday.
- 1980 Oakland Raiders, No. 4 seed: 27-10 over Eagles in Super Bowl 15
- 1997 Denver Broncos, No. 4 seed: 31-24 over Packers in Super Bowl 32
- 2000 Baltimore Ravens, No. 4 seed: 34-7 over Giants in Super Bowl 35
- 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers, No. 6 seed: 21-10 over Seahawks in Super Bowl 40
- 2007 New York Giants, No. 5 seed: 17-14 over Patriots in Super Bowl 42
- 2010 Green Bay Packers, No. 6 seed: 31-25 over Steelers in Super Bowl 45
- 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, No. 5 seed: 31-9 over Chiefs in Super Bowl 55
The Seattle Seahawks (+300) are considered the favorites to win the Super Bowl according to BetMGM Sportsbook, but right behind them sit two Wild Card teams, the Los Angeles Rams (+320) and the Buffalo Bills (+550). Winning playoff games on the road isn’t easy but LA and Buffalo have already proven they can do so, and will look to do so against this weekend against the Chicago Bears the Denver Broncos.
