Have the 49ers received any trade offers for Jimmy Garoppolo?

NFL teams have to trim their rosters to 53 players by 30 August. With four days to go, the San Francisco 49ers can’t find a trade for Jimmy Garoppolo.

The 2022 NFL season is almost two weeks away and while the 49ers have made their decision to start the year with Trey Lance, Jimmy Garoppolo remains in limbo at the franchise with no trade deals on the table for the quarterback.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, as things stand San Francisco have zero options for a Garoppolo trade, leaving the 49ers with another decision to make: release the quarterback or keep him on the roster, a situation the franchise may be happy enough about but not one that will smooth Garoppolo’s ruffled feathers if he is a back-up to Lance.

San Francisco could cut their losses on Jimmy G

Rapoport’s report comes four days before the deadline for NFL teams to finalise their 53-player rosters.

The most viable option for the 49ers is to get rid of Jimmy-G. The Eastern Illinois alum is entering the final year of a five-year, $137.5 million contract; according to Spotrac, cutting the 30-year-old quarterback will only result in a $2 million hit on the club’s salary cap.

In five seasons with the 49ers, Garoppolo posted a 31-14 record with 897 completions, 11,162 yards, 66 touchdown passes and 38 interceptions, leading San Francisco to two NFC finals and Super Bowl LIV.

Bad business for San Francisco

It was rumored throughout the offseason that several NFL teams were interested in trading for the 49ers quarterback. Among these were the Seahawks, who have Drew Lock and Geno Smith on the roster. However, Bleacher Report suggests that Seattle could yet make a late move for Garoppolo if he is released.
