Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud remains in concussion protocol ahead of Week 16. What happens now?
As we enter Week 16, it appears the Texans’ quarterback is set to miss yet another game, which leaves one to wonder: Will he play again this season?
This is a critical time for the Houston Texans as they are still very much in the playoff picture. On the other hand, there is no denying that without their starting quarterback the challenge will be much greater.
C.J. Stroud remains in concussion protocol
It’s now been more than a week since he sustained the injury, but as things stand Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Speaking on Wednesday Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans “no” when asked if it was possible that Stroud’s season had come to an end. Yet, it’s worth noting that Stroud did not train on Wednesday and at this point is expected to miss his second straight game this weekend. “Each concussion is different,” Ryans said. “It takes a different amount of time for each person to heal. He’s just going through the protocol just like everyone else has. The most important thing is making sure C.J. is healthy.”
What happened to C.J. Stroud?
If you missed it, Stroud suffered an injury during last weekend’s 30-6 loss to the New York Jets. The unfortunate moment came with just under seven minutes to go in the game. It was on a second-and-10 play from the Houston 25-yard line when Stroud completed a six-yard pass to wide receiver John Metchie III. Though he made the pass, he was unable to avoid the oncoming tackle from Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams who took him to the ground. As a result, the 22-year-old was absent for the team’s 19-16 overtime win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday and will likely miss this week’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
OK, so it’s Case Keenum once more?
It would appear so. In Sunday’s win, Case Keenum put up some respectable numbers as he threw for 229 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 23-of-36 passing. It goes without saying that the Texans will need another solid performance from their backup QB. At 8-6, the team still has a shot at the AFC title as it’s currently locked into a three-way with both the Indianpolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars. This all to say, Stroud’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. Nonetheless, they appear to have the means to handle the situation.
