The NFL Scouting Combine is the moment when college football players can show off their skills in front of NFL coaches, managers, and scouts by performing intense physical and mental tests. This year’s combine began in Indianapolis on Tuesday, February 27 with on-field workouts set to start on Thursday, February 29 until Sunday, March 3. This gives the players another opportunity to prove themselves after the college season has ended but before the NFL Draft happens in April.

NFL Combine tests and evaluations

  • 40-yard dash
  • Bench pressing of 225 pounds (102 kg)

How are players selected for the NFL Combine?

The players who participate in the NFL Combine are draft-eligible players who are selected by the Player Selection Committee. The committee bases their decisions on input given by the 32 NFL teams. The athletes who receive enough votes by position will be given an invitation. The objective is to invite every player who will be drafted in the upcoming NFL Draft that year.

What makes a player eligible for the NFL Combine?

A player is eligible for the NFL Combine if...

  • They are a college senior - all college seniors are eligible after they finish the year.
  • An underclassman only if he declares for the NFL Draft and meets all the NCAA and NFL requirements.
  • They weren’t a college football player, but meet certain circumstances. In special circumstances, an athlete who did not play college football may be eligible; he would need to contract the Player Personnel Department in New York to verify whether or not he is eligible.
