How can the Cincinnati Bengals turn around their season? Quarterback Joe Burrow has an idea
The Bengals quarterback believes that it’s on him to make a few changes if the team is to get back to winning ways after a rough start to the 2024 campaign.
When you consider that it was just two years ago that the Cincinnati Bengals were playing in the Super Bowl, it’s difficult to fathom how they are now sitting on a record of 0-3 and quite frankly, don’t look to be improving. Yet, the team’s signal caller believes he has the answer.
Joe Burrow wants to be a better leader
In case it wasn’t clear, the Cincinnati Bengals are not in a good place. To that end, concerns are increasingly being raised such that starting quarterback Joe Burrow gave his take on the situation in a candid manner when speaking with the media on Wednesday. Asked how his leadership style has evolved during this difficult time, Burrow spoke of changing his traditional approach.
“Maybe a little more vocal. I’m usually a lead-by-example kind of guy but I think I can pick my spots to say some more things. So, find those spots this week,” said the 27-year-old signal caller. “We’ve got a lot of young guys that we’re counting on who haven’t really been here before, so have them hear my voice a little bit might be beneficial to them.”
It should be said that as much as the Bengals have been disappointing so far this season, Joe Burrow has not, as evidenced by his 70.9% pass completion rate which has seen him notch 746 yards, with five touchdowns and no interceptions. His passer rating (107.5) and QBR (62.5) are among the league’s best at present. With that in mind, it’s hard to avoid the idea that the team itself is failing in other areas, namely defense.
At any rate, the Bengals now face another issue which is the weight of history. According to SI, only 2.5% of NFL teams that have started 0–3 have made the playoffs since 1990. What that means is that the Bengals are essentially out of wiggle room. In Week 4, Burrow and Co. will take on the Carolina Panthers who won their last game. Now, make no mistake the Panthers are not playing well such that the Bengals should in fact fancy their chances, but with their current form nothing is guaranteed. If nothing else, the team’s quarterback is willing to make changes and sometimes that’s what it takes to win.
