Heartbreak at Utah State University with the shock news of the passing of cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. The 22-year-old died in a drowning accident at Porcupine Reservoir in Cache County, Utah. He was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday evening, with Utah State Football issuing statement on social media shortly afterwards.

Andre had been cliff-diving with college friends, including a Utah State team mate, at the reservoir in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The alarm was raised at approximately 2:20 p.m. when he failed to resurface. His body was recovered by a diving team shortly after 9 p.m. local time.

Utah State interim head coach Nate Dreiling said in a statement: “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own. Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”

Seldon Jr. was educated at Belleville High School and studied at the University of Michigan, where he made his collegiate debut, ending on the winning side against Rutgers in November 2020.

He joined Utah State last summer after two seasons with New Mexico State. As a freshman, he finished his first season with the Aggies with 44 tackles, four pass breakups, 1.5 tackles for loss and returned an interception 19 yards for a touchdown.

Andre spent last spring at TCU before opting for a fifth year of college football at Utah State.
