Thompson underwent surgery on Monday and is facing an extended period on the sidelines. The Saints beat their divisional rival with a score of 20:17. Thompson was injured when New Orleans left tackle Trevor Penning fell on his leg after a duel with Panthers defensive end DeShawn Williams—the player weighing almost 150 kilograms stretched over the 29-year-old’s ankle and lower leg.

The linebacker underwent a detailed examination, which revealed a complete fracture of the fibula. Panthers’ head coach, Frank Reich, confirmed the fracture and reported successful surgery. Unfortunately, the linebacker, who has been a part of the franchise in Charlotte for nine years and signed a new contract before the current season, is unlikely to return to the field before the end of the season. He is a legitimate heir to the Panthers’ defensive leader, Thomas Davis Sr., who, along with Luke Kuechly, led the defensive force that Carolina was in the second half of the 2010s.

The former Washington University student has been one of the Carolina Panthers captains for the past four years, displaying his leadership skills both on and off the field. Throughout his career, spanning over eight seasons, Shaq has played in 119 games, showing impressive consistency game after game. His dedication and hard work have resulted in him recording 719 tackles, 12 sacks, three interceptions, and four forced fumbles. These numbers speak volumes about his defensive abilities and commitment to the team.

Last season, John once again proved his worth as a leader and player the previous season when he led his teammates in tackles with 104. He played a vital role in his team’s success, providing much-needed stability and motivation. His presence on the field has inspired the team and set a high standard for all his teammates to follow.

The Carolina Panthers have lost their first two games and are preparing to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.
