We are in Week 3 and several teams are struggling to get their first victory. Unfortunately history is not on their side as far as making a playoff run.

How many NFL teams have made the playoffs after starting 0-3?

Another week has come and gone in the NFL season and it’s already Week 3. After two games, it’s difficult to say which teams truly have a shot at making a playoff run. After three, however, it becomes a bit clearer.
And unfortunately for those who haven’t notched a W yet, the outlook isn’t promising.
History of 0-3 teams in the playoffs
At the moment, the only 0-3 team is the Miami Dolphins. That will change after the games are played today. The Texans, Jets, Browns, Titans, Giants, Bears, Saints, Panthers and yes, believe it or not, the Kansas City Chiefs could join the Dolphins at the bottom of the table.

Historically, this does not bode well for their postseason hopes. Since the league expanded to 12 teams in 1990, just 2.5 percent of teams that started 0-3 have made it to the playoffs. There have only been four teams to start 0-3 and then make the postseason since 1990: the 1992 San Diego Chargers, the 1995 Detroit Lions, the 1998 Buffalo Bills, and the 2018 Houston Texans. Only six have done it in NFL history - here’s how that turned out for them:
- 1981 Jets: 10-5-1 (AFC wild card)
- 1982 Buccaneers: 5-4 (NFC wild card, strike-shortened season)
- 1992 Chargers: 11-5 (AFC West champions)
- 1995 Lions: 10-6 (NFC wild card)
- 1998 Bills: 10-6 (AFC wild card)
- 2018 Texans: 11-5 (AFC South champions)
We’ll update the list tomorrow after we see who has gone 0-3, but one thing is for certain, no NFL team in history that has gotten off to an 0-3 start has ever won the Super Bowl.
