Update:

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebrations have descended into chaos after shots were fired near Union Station, which was on the team’s parade route. More than one million people were estimated to have taken to the streets in Missouri’s biggest city as the team won the NFL championship game for a second year running.

At least 10 people injured

In a Twitter thread, Kansas City Police initially instructed people to leave the area as quickly as possible before revealing shots had been fired “west of Union Station near the garage” and that “multiple people were struck”. It has since come to light that at least 10 people have been taken to hospital so far.

KC Police also disclosed that two armed people had been take into custody for more investigation, although no further information has been disclosed, as things stand.

The incident took place just as the parade was finishing, with the team having descended Grand Boulevard, starting at 6th street and turning onto Pershing Road and Main Street before finishing up at Union Station.

The Chiefs - and Kansas City itself - have become used to Super Bowl parades in recent years. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co have won the NFL final three times in the last five seasons, including the last two in a row. On Sunday, they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in Phoenix to win their fourth title overall.
