While many football fans are still processing the idea, reports do in fact confirm that the Bill Belichick era has come to an end in New England. The head coach who, along with Tom Brady, led the New England Patriots to the top, said goodbye on Thursday after experiencing one of his worst seasons with the Boston-based franchise.

What happened with Bill Belichick?

While it’s hard to avoid feeling sympathy for the now former Patriots coach, the reality is that football, and moreover, the business of it is a cutthroat affair. That’s to say that on any given day, you’re only as valuable as your last result. Indeed, that is an idea that one of the NFL’s most decorated coaches learned the hard way this past regular season.

Following a stint that lasted more than two decades and saw the Patriots win 6 out of the 10 Super Bowls that they contested, the franchise and the tactician decided to part ways, a decision that owner Robert Kraft did not take lightly. After all, we’re talking about a coach who has registered 333 victories, including a record 32 wins in the Playoffs, numbers that made him the highest-paid coach in the history of United States sports with a salary of $25 million.

OK, so how much is Bill Belichick worth now?

Quite a bit to be honest. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Belichick currently has a net worth of approximately $70 million. While that figure comes largely from his salaries across his career in the NFL, there are also several bonuses that he has amassed over time as a result of his prolific winning record. Where his base salary specifically is concerned, it is understood that Belichick earns at least $12.5 million in base salary.

Of course, while we can marvel at the figures involved, it has to be said that this is one individual who we can say was worth every penny. Few could have imagined the level of success that Belichick would usher in when he joined the franchise back in 1995, following time with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans. Many of course will point to the involvement of Tom Brady as the central reason for the titles that followed, however, it would be outrightly dishonest to disregard the hand that Belichick had in forming one of the greatest sporting dynasties in American sports history. As for what comes next for Belichick, there has been no official word on where he will coach next, but what we do know is that whatever team hires him will be making a sound investment.
