With the league making the jumping from the YouTube to DirectTV, there are obviously going to be changes afoot, the most important of which will understandably be the cost. How much will it cost to watch the NFL’s Sunday Ticket? Let’s find out.

Pricing released for NFL’s Sunday Ticket on YouTube

According to an announcement from video sharing giant, YouTube, The NFL’s Sunday Ticket will cost $249 to $449 following its move from DirecTV. It is understood that YouTube will be offering a promotional period until Jun 6th, after which Sunday NFL games will cost between $249 to $349. Viewers who already have a YouTube TV account will be granted a $100 discount, while new clients will face a higher price. In case you didn’t know YouTube TV offers more than 100 live channels in a structure that resembles traditional cable TV.

Where Sunday Ticket is concerned, the show provides broadcast coverage of the NFL’s Sunday games. There are also what are referred to as ‘In-market games’ e.g., the Texans for viewers who are based in Houston. These games will be available on local channels. It’s important to note, that the package does not include the Sunday primetime game, nor does it offer ‘Thursday Night Football’ games as well as those played on Mondays.

From DirectTV to YouTube, what happened?

If you missed it, YouTube won the right to broadcast the Sunday Ticket games back in December, starting with the upcoming season. In light of that, the platform is the latest tech giant - Amazon is another - to secure the rights to broadcast the most watched sport in America’s market. It is understood that the deal is valued at more than $2 billion per year for the next seven years. A pretty penny to say the least. It’s worth noting that the previous holder of the contract, DirectTV, charged approximately $300 per season for the package, meaning there has definitely been an increase in price. On the other hand, fans were given access to games that would otherwise not be shown in their local TV markets i.e., a fair trade.

To be clear, prior to this move DirecTV offered Sunday Ticket excclusively to subscribers of its satellite-TV service, with some exceptions. Where YouTube is concerned, the company will be selling Sunday Ticket to people who don’t currently have a TV service. To that end, YouTube will be offering a standalone option for Sunday Ticket that will cost $449 per season, while its promotional rate will be selling for $349. As per the norm, Sunday Ticket will be available on all devices where YouTube and YouTube TV are available.
