How much will Ceedee Lamb be fined for missing training camp?

The Dallas Cowboys star receiver already accrued some hefty fines for missing offseason practice and now he’s adding to the debt as his holdout continues.

Update:

The Dallas Cowboys have already landed in Oxnard, California for the start of the 2024 training camp, and all the players are meant to report to the first practice on Thursday morning. There is one, however, who will not be participating.

Dallas’ star receiver CeeDee Lamb is waiting for a contract extension and he’s not happy that it’s taking the Cowboys so long to get it to him. And until they can come to an agreement, Lamb is holding out on practicing with the team. It’s something other Cowboys players have done in the past, and both saw success. With all the leverage CeeDee has in this regard, it was no surprise at all when it was confirmed he’d be skipping out.

How much will Ceedee Lamb be fined for missing training camp?

Lamb already missed out on OTAs and mandatory minicamp during the offseason for this same reason. In doing so, he incurred a total of $101,716 in fines. The fines for missing training camp will be even higher. Lamb can be fined up to $40,000 for each missed practice. If he misses any preseason games, it will be even higher still.

“According to Article 7, Section G of the collective bargaining agreement, Lamb would be fined a maximum of $40,000 per practice missed during training camp. He also would be fined an entire week’s worth of regular season pay for each preseason game missed.”

In Lamb’s current deal, a week’s salary is just under $1 million, which would mean he could be fined up to $3.68 million if he misses all three preseason games. It seems Lamb is willing to pay these costs in hopes he’ll be able to afford it with his eventual contract extension. And while the Cowboys can actually elect to waive his fines for missing minicamp since Lamb is still on his rookie contract, they cannot do the same for the fines he’ll collect when missing training camp or preseason games.

The Cowboys would be wise to get the extension going as soon as possible, as they could save up to $13.5 million in cap space in 2024 if they do so before the season starts. For now, Lamb is sitting out.
