How viewers for TPUSA’s alternative Kid Rock halftime show compare to Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show
Turning Point USA’s “alternate” halftime show featuring Kid Rock brought in millions of viewers, but it’s unlikely to be a match for Bad Bunny.
Super Bowl LX was held in Santa Clara, California, a city and state with literal Spanish names. And yet, many Americans were upset that the NFL chose an artist to perform at halftime whose lyrics are all in Spanish.
Despite their rage, Bad Bunny, who claims that music is a universal language and whose halftime message was all about love over hate and uniting people, is universally adored by many different cultures. Still, the Republicans decided to broadcast an alternative “halftime show” featuring Kid Rock, Lee Brice, Bradley Gilbert and Gabby Barrett, hosted by Turning Point USA.
TPUSA vs Bad Bunny: How the viewership numbers stack up
As you’d expect, considering enough people in the country voted for Donald Trump that he became president a second time, there were actually quite a lot of viewers tuning to the TPUSA’s alternative halftime show.
At its peak, about 5.7 million people tuned in to the broadcast. And while that may sound like a lot, it’s peanuts in comparison to what the Super Bowl halftime show typically brings in. We don’t yet have the exact numbers (those will become available on Monday), but since 2008, it has annually brought in over 100 million viewers.
Last year, Kendrick Lamar broke the record with an estimated 133.5 million viewers. Considering Bad Bunny’s global reach, there’s a good chance he breaks that record.
We know that the president himself was watching Bad Bunny, as he made sure to comment on it on his social media directly after, adding to the audience numbers.
