Is Christian McCaffrey going to play against the Jets on Monday Night Football? Injury status

San Francisco RB McCaffery is a late scratch for the 49ers season opener with the New York Jets as he continues to nurse calf and achilles injuries.

The San Francisco 49ers are back in action tonight as they kick start their 2024-25 NFL season with the first Monday Night Football of the new campaign, taking on the New York Jets.

After missing most of the team’s training camp due to injury, running back Christian McCaffrey has been downgraded to out for tonight’s season opener. McCaffrey was recovering from a calf and Achilles injury and returned to practice last week, but the Niners will be without him against the Jets from Levi’s Stadium.

Speaking to reporters last Friday, McCaffrey insisted that he expects to play as normal for the 49ers. McCaffrey, nicknamed CMC, typically takes a lot of playing minutes for the 49ers and will be a key player again this year.

Who is on the 49ers’ injury report?

As of Monday morning (game-day) just a handful of 49ers players remained on the San Francisco injury list, with two listed as ‘questionable’ for Monday’s game against the Jets.

Aaron Banks has a finger problem and head coach Kyle Shanahan has listed McCaffery as still questionable so his presence at Levi’s Stadium for the season opener remains very much up in the air.

Additionally, the head coach ruled out defensive lineman Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) and linebacker Dee Winters (ankle), who both suffered injuries in the preseason finale with Talanoa Hufanga (knee) also doubtful.
