Is Jerry Jones a Republican?

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has made his political stance clear over the years. In light of Joe Biden’s recent announcement to step down as the Democratic candidate in the 2024 presidential campaign, here’s how the billionaire owner typically votes.

Jerry Jones is a Republican

I think the clue was right there in the last sentence - let me know when you meet a billionaire Democrat. Jones has donated to the Republican Party consistently over the years. In fact, in 2020, it was reported that he donated $396,000 to the GOP. When asked about it, he told a reporter, “that’s how the country should be run, but don’t f*** with me, all right?”

In 2023, Jones donated over $900,000 to help reelect Texas’ top three officials - $525,000 to Governor Greg Abbott, and $200,000 each to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and attorney general Ken Paxton, who was later impeached and suspended from office. During the 2008 presidential campaign, Jones gave the maximum $2,300 allowed in the primaries to Senator John McCain. Four years later, he donated $2,500 to Mitt Romney.

Jones has donated some to Democrats as well, although significantly less. In 2000, he donated $1,000 each to Senators Royce West and John Whitmore and in 2010, he and daughter Charlotte Jones donated $12,000 to Democratic governor Mike Beebe in Arkansas. That same year though, he gave $40,000 to Repbulican Meg Whitman who was running for governor of California.

In 2016, Jones donated $200,000 to the pro-Republican America Leads PAC. And in 2020, Newsweek reported that a firm linked to Jones and registered at the same address as the Cowboys (Glenstone LP) donated over $1 million to Donald Trump’s inaugural committee. Jones was one of several NFL owners to donate, with a combined total of $7.7 million given by league owners.

During the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, Jones called Trump the “hardest worker you’ve ever seen”.

“No one in the world has the ability to handle this COVID any better than the office of the President of the United States,” said Jones. “I’m very confident he’ll be able to continue governing. Really, really I’m sure he’s anticipated this, knowing him.”
