Is Jerry Jones selling the Cowboys to Saudi Arabia?

The rumors are a-plenty this NFL offseason and it’s no surprise to see the Dallas Cowboys at the center of them.

ROB CARRAFP

Another day in the uneventful NFL offseason, another absurd Dallas Cowboys rumor. Yesterday, Dak Prescott was suffering from a mystery injury and today, Jerry Jones is selling the Cowboys to Saudi Arabia. Let’s just squash that rumor right now.

Is Jerry Jones selling the Cowboys to Saudi Arabia?

No - that’s the short answer. This rumor was started by Fox Sports 1 host Craig Carton, who claimed that Jerry Jones could be getting ready to sell the team to a group of investors from Saudi Arabia. He’s been floating the rumor around for a while that Jones is going to sell the team soon, despite Jones having made it abundantly clear that he has no intention of selling the team, ever.

“I think they’re going to sell the team,” Carton said. “I would not be surprised if we start hearing rumblings that Jerry Jones is going after hedge funds in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, trying to find the suitor to give him the largest check ever given to the owner of a North American sports franchise.”

The Cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise in the world and selling them would earn somewhere around $10 billion, but Jones won’t even let anyone in the organization have any control over what goes on. All three of his children are working within the organization in top executive positions. Do we really think he’s going to just sell the team he’s built into an empire over the last 35 years to some investors in Saudi Arabia? Yeah, right.

How Jerry Jones made his fortune

Just a few days ago, a rumor was started, also out of nowhere, that Dak Prescott was “not at 100%” and had to undergo an MRI. There was no evidence to back that claim and there’s even less to back this even more unbelievable claim about Saudi Arabia.

It seems that some people have become bored with the contract discussion and are just making things up now. Training camp can’t get here soon enough - we’re ready for real news.
