The love affair between Dallas and the prolific wide receiver seems set to continue as the team hopes to acquire his services, despite recent reports of a less than ideal situation which occurred on a plane.

Cowboys’ Jerry Jones reaffirms interest in OBJ despite plane ‘incident’

As we all know, it’s now been weeks that the Dallas Cowboys have been publicly courting wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who’s set to visit at least three NFL teams in the coming days. To that end, it should come as no surprise, that recent reports of an issue that occurred at an airport when he was travelling, have in no way affected the team’s desire to sign him. Speaking two days after Beckham was removed from an American Airlines flight, following a dispute with cabin crew, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that Beckham’s “behavior is not an issue,” before going on to not only defend him, but promote his compatibility with Dallas as well. “His overall team compatibility, his judgment, his behavior is not an issue,” Jones said. “It is with many. It isn’t with him.”

What happened between Odell Beck Jr. and American Airlines staff?

As per reports, Beckham was set to travel from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday, when police were called to escorted him off his scheduled flight and subsequently through the terminal. According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, American Airlines crew requested a medical emergency, after raising concerns that Beckham was “seriously ill” after “coming in and out of consciousness” before takeoff. The airline alleged Beckham refused to fasten his seatbelt, prompting all the passengers to be deplaned so Beckham could be removed from the plane. Where Beckham himself is concerned, it’s understood that he has since denied any wrongdoing via a statement from his lawyer and in turn has accused an “overzealous flight attendant” of forcing him off the plane after he allegedly missed seatbelt instructions because he had fallen asleep. It should be said, that Beckham has not been cited or charged in relation to the incident and as things stand is still scheduled to meet with the Cowboys, Giants and Bills.

Is Odell Beckham Jr. the right fit for the Dallas Cowboys?

As we said before Jones and the Cowboys have made no secret of their hope to sign Beckham and have even spoken openly about the idea that they believe he could be key to championship run this season. “We have to have this year,” Jones said of the receiver’s coming return from an ACL tear which he suffered during the Super Bowl this year. “It’s very important. This year has to be a big part of it. ...We have almost the whole show ahead of us, but we’ve got to have a situation where (he) can really contribute now.” Interestingly, Jones also went on to add that he had spoken with Beckham last week and was impressed by his demeanor. “(He’s) very genuine. Very competitive. ...Feels good about himself. I think he breeds confidence but yet (is) very, very compatible.”
