Whether he’s serious or not, the idea of the Hall of Fame WR playing in the bay once again, is one that’s definitely worth a smile.

With Jimmy Garoppolo out injured, the San Francisco 49ers have been forced to rely on rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, who some argue is in need of help. Interestingly, there’s certain Hall of Fame wide receiver who has offered his services.

Terrell Owens wants to help Brock Purdy and the 49ers

As the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, rookie QB Brock Purdy holds the dubious title of ‘Mr. Irrelevant.’ Of course, the reality is quite different now that he’s the starting quarterback for the Super Bowl aiming San Francisco 49ers, following an injury to Jimmy Garropolo. With the current situation being unexpected to say the least, one former 49er recently made it clear that he’d love to help out. Speaking during an appearance on ‘The Morning Roast’ for star wide receiver Terrell Owens said he would jump at the chance to join his old team, even going as far as to disclose that he’d already been in contact with 49ers CEO Jed York.

While we do love the idea, it’s hard to see a 49-year-old Owens suiting up in the red and gold once again, however, he believes that in specific scenarios he could be of use to the team. “Oh yeah, absolutely,” Owens said. “Hey look, man, I’ve already kind of sprinkled some words out there. Like yo, if you guys need a receiver, I’m good. Listen here: third down, red zone, trust me. I’m a very valuable asset. I’ve been training...I’m already ready, I’ve already reached out to Jed York, I’ve already told him, ‘Yo, if you need somebody, I’m definitely a viable (option).”

Terrell Owens was as good as it gets

To be clear, Owens was the stuff of legend. Across eight years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, Owens undoubtedly became one of the best receivers of his entire generation. With the 49ers, he caught 592 passes for 8,572 yards and 81 touchdowns. Following his time in the bay, Owens would spend a further seven seasons in the NFL, playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. On the whole, he registered an incredible 1,078 receptions, 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns, which if you’re wondering still ranks third all-time in NFL history in receptions and receiving yards. Could we see Owens in the league again? Who’s to say, but we’ve got to admit, he still looks like he’s got it.
