The Jags got well within the range of Cam Little who hit a 70 yarder last week, but tried to get him a few more yards, and Jonas Sanker was there to end the game. He almost took it to the house but stepped out of bound just as the clock hit zero.

The Jags and the Saints share the spoils in the Big Easy after an entertaining four quarters.

This was the best any Saints QB looked during the preseason so far. Spencer Rattler made a statement in the second half, going 18/24 for 199 yards 1 TD and 1 INT. He led a couple of FG drives, and then when it counted drove his team down the field hit a 20 yard pass to Pettis for the TD and then ran in the 2 point conversion to tie the game up with 21 seconds on the clock.

The Jags looked like they were going to add to the lead midway through the third quarter, but Mullens was picked by Jaylan Ford and that turned the tide of the game for the final 20 minutes.

Tyler Shough didn't put up bad numbers in the first half, but he also didn't do much to move the offense down the field. He went 9/12 for 66 yards, but the Saints scored just 3 points with him on the field.

Bhayshul Tuten punched in the TD after the Long catch and extended the lead before the halftime break. JAX would add to the lead with a late 51 yard field goal from Cam Little.

Nick Mullens came in and continued the offensive dominance for the Jags. He hit Hunter Long with a great throw and catch to set up the second TD of the day. Mullen went 14/17 for 112 yards, but he did throw one INT.

Lawrence and the Jags went right back down the field once they got the ball back and this time Lawrence hit Washington for the game's first score.

Lawrence went 8/10 for 76 yards and this TD.

There was no Travis Hunter for the Jags on Sunday afternoon in New Orleans but there was Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the Jacksonville starters. Lawrence led the Jags into the red zone on both of his drives, but one mistake cost him and the Jags a red zone turnover when he tripped over his center and muffed the handoff.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM NEW ORLEANS!!!

IT'S OFFICIAL, TRAVIS HUNTER WILL NOT PLAY TODAY AGAINST THE SAINTS. THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD CLOSE OUT THIS PAGE THERE IS STILL PLENTY OF ACTION TO FOLLOW FROM NEW ORLEANS.

Heisman curse reversing?

Travis Hunter is the newest Heisman Trophy winner to enter the NFL, but if history has told us anything, it’s that winning college football’s most prestigious award doesn’t mean it’s going to translate at the next level. It seems like that trend seems to be changing lately, but historically Heisman winners have struggled to make the transition. Luckily for Hunter, the best player in college football over the last 10 years have made the jump seamlessly. Over the last decade, some of the NFL’s biggest stars have started their careers winning the Heisman.

These are the Hesiman Trophy winners over the last 10 years.

2015: Derrick Henry

2016: Lamar Jackson

2017: Baker Mayfield

2018: Kyler Murray

2019: Joe Burrow

2020: DeVonta Smith

2021: Bryce Young

2022: Caleb Williams

2023: Jayden Daniels

2024: Travis Hunter

Saints QB situation

The Saints have the most inexperienced QB room in the NFL. Spencer Rattler is currently listed as their started on the depth chart, and started a few games in his rookie season last year but failed to solidify his job during the season, and when Derek Carr retired from football, it wasn’t clear that Rattler was going to be the QB1. Shough is a rookie, and has a lot to prove if he wants to be the starter in Week 1. Jake Haener has been in the league for two years, heading into year three he has played in 8 games, thrown 39 passes, completing 18 of those passes for 226 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.

Star watch Saints

Today is going to be all about rookie Tyler Shoughh for the New Orleans Saints. Their rookie QB who they took in the second round of April’s NFL Draft played a handful of series with in the preseason opener, but now will get the start today and play with some of the first teamers. He had the best numbers of any of the QBs but he also did get the most snaps. Shough went 15/22 for 165 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. The rookie is almost 26 years old after dealing with transfers, injuries and a load of other obstacles in his career. All of that work and all of those troubles have led him to today where he has a chance to earn his spot as the QB1 heading into the Saints season opener.

Star watch Jags

We came into this week looking forward to seeing Travis Hunter play on both sides of the ball again for the second straight game, but that may not happen. The former Heisman Trophy winner is questionable with what the Jags are calling an upper body injury. He suffered the injury a couple days ago and sat out practice since then. They will obviously want him to get as many reps as possible as he adjusts to the speed and strength at the next level, but the most important thing is keeping him healthy for the start of Week 1. In game 1 he had two catches for 9 yards and played two series at corner, but barley had a an impact on the defensive side of the ball.

Saints last season

There was a point in time that the Saints looked like they might have been the best team in the NFL. That didn’t last too long, but they did win their first two games and put up 91 points in the course of those two games. Then they took on the future Super Bowl champs and lost 15-12 to the Eagles. Next they blew a late lead against the Falcons and things started to go down hill. Injuries started to mount, and they lost seven in a row. QB Derek Carr battled injury for much of the year, and their defense was decimated. Carr was knocked out for the rest of the season in Week 14 and the Saints lost four in a row to finish the season 5-12.

Jags last season

The Jags had another underwhelming season last year. Trevor Lawerence was injured had to miss the last 8 week of the season but even before that Jacksonville was not playing up to par. They lost their first 4 games of the season and 10 of heir first 12. Mac Jones played the final 8 weeks of the campaign and the Jags put up a little more fight with him under center but they still finished the season 4-13 as their coach Doug Pederson was let go. The bright side of all of this was they got the second pick in the draft after trading up with the Cleveland Browns and took Travis Hunter with their first round selection.

Saints last game

The Saints started their preseason campaign in Los Angeles against the Los Angeles Chargers last week. Spencer Rattler got the start, but a punt, a turnover on downs another punt and then a fumble was all that the Saints could muster with him under center. Rookie Tyler Shough entered the game and lead a field goal drive right before half to put the Saints on the board. After the break Shough threw a pick six to take some of the wind out of his sails, but then connected with Marcus Tipton on a 54 yard TD pass to make up for his mistake. Today the rookie will get some run with the first team and look to impress his coaches in the penultimate warm up of he the year.

Jags last game

Trevor Lawrence and most of the starters did get some time at the beginning of the Jags opening game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Lawrence played one drive, leading his team to a field goal and then Nick Mullens was put in and got most of the reps for the Jags, and played relatively well, passing for 89 yards and a TD on 11/18 throws. The headline coming in was Travis Hunter and he did play both sides of the ball, but had a limited role on offense and defense. The Steelers would go on to win the game 31-25 with a deep shot from Skylar Thompson to K. Williams to ice the game with 5 minutes left.

We are live from Caesar’s Superdome

Hello everyone and welcome to the Big Easy where nothing figures to be very easy for the Saints this year. They come into the season with some serious questions at the quarterback position and today they will be hoping to get some clarity as to who their starting QB will be in Week 1. The Jags had another underwhelming season last year, but they are under new direction with head coach Liam Coen, they have a healthy Trevor Lawrence and they have a Heisman Trophy winning rookie who is looking to make an impact on both sides of the ball. There is reason to believe again in Jacksonville, but they know there is still a lot of work to be done if they are going to return to relevancy in the AFC.
