Despite the fact that their Super Bowl run may have ended in disappointment, the reality is the Eagles’ signal caller is easily one of the best in the league and with that, it makes sense that they have finally made the move to bring an end to speculation about his future. Here’s how the details break down.

Eagles and Jalen Hurts agree to five-year extension

According to reports on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback, Jalen Hurts have finally agreed to a new deal. It is understood that Hurts has put pen to paper on a five-year extension that will see him tied to the franchise through 2028. Incidentally, the announcement from the team was made on the same day that its offseason program commenced. In terms of numbers, the statement from the team didn’t give specific details, however, numerous outlets have reported that that the deal is valued at $255 million with $179.3 million in guaranteed money.

To be clear, that is the highest salary ever in league history and will quite likely set a precedent for other quarterbacks in the league looking to sign a new deal. They include, but are not limited to the likes of Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson. At just 24-years-old Hurts is coming off an MVP worthy season in which he overcame injury to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance. In total he registered 3,701 yards to go with 22 touchdowns. There was also the NFC title, which is to say it wasn’t a bad year. Now that his future has been resolved, the Eagles can focus on addressing the other areas of the field which need attention. It’s worth noting that Hurts’ agreement includes a no-trade clause, which is the first of its kind in the history of the franchise.
