The Philadelphia Eagles dismantled the two-time defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs to take a 40-22 victory on Sunday. Quarterback Jalen Hurts led the way, earning the MVP honors for his efforts in the win.

In the game, Hurts had 16 completions on 22 passes for 221 yards, two touchdown passes, and one interception, and added 11 carries for 72 yards and another rushing touchdown on a famous Eagles' tush push.

Hurts' efforts earned him MVP honors. The Super Bowl MVP award is given to the player whose individual performance contributed the most to the game. On top of earning the Lombardi trophy that’s given to the winning team, the Super Bowl MVP gets the Pete Rozelle Trophy, named after the NFL’s long-time commissioner.

Until 2015, the Super Bowl MVP winner was given a free car in addition to the trophy. When Tom Brady won it with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 49, he was given a red Chevrolet truck, and famously re-gifted it to cornerback Malcom Butler, who intercepted Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at the goal line to seal the victory.

That was the last year (2015) that a free car was given to the winner of the Super Bowl MVP award though. After that year, Hyundai took over as the “official car” of the Super Bowl until 2019, and Ford took over in 2022. Still, no Super Bowl MVP has been given a free car since 2015.

So for now, Hurts will have to be satisfied with the trophy and the bragging rights.
