Jaxson Dart waits in the wings: will Russell Wilson start for Giants vs. Cowboys?
The New York Giants are banking on Russell Wilson to face the Dallas Cowboys despite his disappointing Week 1 debut.

The New York Giants are putting their faith in Russell Wilson to lead the offense against the Dallas Cowboys, even after his rocky debut in Week 1.
The Giants opened the 2025 NFL season with a painful loss to the Washington Commanders, struggling to generate points under Wilson’s command.
Daboll backs quarterback Wilson
Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Wilson will remain the starter ahead of rookie Jaxson Dart for Week 2 at AT&T Stadium, stressing that the defeat wasn’t solely on the veteran quarterback.

“We didn’t play particularly well, I’d say collectively,” Daboll told reporters. “When it comes to making any decisions — whether at a position or with the scheme — I want to do that with a clear mind and after watching the film. Once again, as I said yesterday, that game wasn’t Russell Wilson’s fault. We need to be better collectively, both in practice and on game day. But Russ will be the starter.”
Russell Wilson’s Week 1 struggles
Wilson completed just 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards in the opener. He was under constant pressure, forced to scramble often, and even ended up as New York’s leading rusher with 44 yards on eight carries. Washington’s defense punished him throughout, with Daron Payne and Dorance Armstrong recording sacks.
Giants QB’s history against the Cowboys
Wilson has plenty of experience facing Dallas. During his years with the Seattle Seahawks, he went 5-1 against the Cowboys, with his only loss coming in 2014 when Tony Romo led Dallas to a 30-23 win. That day, the Cowboys defense limited Wilson to just 206 total yards.
Since leaving Seattle, Wilson has played for the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers but hasn’t faced Dallas since 2020. He nearly had the chance in 2024 while with Pittsburgh, but a calf injury sidelined him for a Sunday Night Football matchup, leaving Justin Fields to start instead.
