Update:

The Dallas Cowboys got more bad injury news this week as both running back Miles Sanders and wide receiver/kick returner KaVontae Turpin will miss Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. But this loss could be Jaydon Blue’s gain.

Patience pays off: Jaydon Blue set for Cowboys debut

Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue will make his NFL debut Sunday against the Jets. A fifth-round pick, Blue has been inactive for the first four games while coaches pushed him to show more consistency, attention to detail, and maturity in practice.

“Very excited,” Blue said about finally getting a shot. “I’ve waited my time. I’ve stayed patient. I always was told to trust the process, and I knew eventually if I was to stay consistent and work hard that my time would come.”

“It was a part of the plan,” he went on. “I’m just excited that I finally get to go out there and showcase my skills.”

Blue could see work as both a backup runner to Javonte Williams and a kick returner with Turpin out.

His debut hasn’t come without some rookie growing pains, though. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer joked that Blue wore flashy Louis Vuitton cleats in practice this week, only to leave with blisters.

“About halfway through practice I saw him laying there. I was like, ‘What the hell happened to Blue? ‘Oh, coach, I’m fine. I got blisters.’ I was like, ‘Oh, shocker. Look at the cool shoes you got,’” said Schottenheimer.

“That’s part of what you deal with young players. And quickly he changed his cleats, and it’s amazing, the blisters weren’t as bad.”

Still, the Cowboys believe Blue’s moment is here, and the rookie insists he’s ready to make the most of it.
