Update:

The vice president of the United States said that he believes that most people prefer politicians to focus on politics. Shortly after, he gave his opinion on the recent engagement between Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop star Taylor Swift. He couldn’t help himself. As he said, he’s “a romantic”.

But it wasn’t just the engagement itself that JD Vance focused on in his interview with USA TODAY.

JD Vance fuels conspiracy theories about NFL and Chiefs

At first, Vance sent his congratulations to Kelce and Swift and wished them a long life of happiness. But his next comments stirred controversy about the NFL and the Chiefs.

Vance is a longtime Cincinnati Bengals fan, and he said the Swift-Kelce engagement concerned him that the NFL might show favoritism toward the Chiefs in pursuit of a “Super Bowl wedding” storyline.

“I will say as a football fan − as a Cincinnati Bengals fan − I hope that the NFL does not put a thumb on the scale for the Kansas City Chiefs just because Travis Kelce is now getting married to maybe the most famous woman in the world," Vance said.

“You guys can’t sort of have this, I’m worried they’re going to have a Super Bowl wedding thing this season,” he went on. “Can’t do it. The Kansas City Chiefs have to follow the same rules as everybody else.”

His remarks play into ongoing conspiracy theories that the league has tilted calls in Kansas City’s favor during their recent dynasty run. Vance’s comments are already fueling speculation about bias and media hype surrounding Kelce and Swift’s relationship.
