Jerry Jones considering Cowboys coaching change for 2026
After a poor defensive showing in 2025, the Dallas Cowboys may make a change at defensive coordinator.

As the Dallas Cowboys were playing out the final game of their underwhelming 2025 season, thoughts had already turned to a busy upcoming offseason.
The Cowboys failed to reach the playoffs for a second successive season, with the team’s defense coming under particular scrutiny. The loss of defensive lineman Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers was a major blow and the Cowboys’ defensive structure left a lot to be desired.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on what's next for the team after today's game:

"It's going to be a busy offseason for us."
He specifically pointed to the next month being a crucial time to evaluate coaches and players.
Team owner Jerry Jones admitted as much over the weekend, confirming that he was unhappy with the team’s defense. However he stopped short of pointing the blame at under-fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.
“Don’t blame this all on Flus. This took five or six years to get here,” Jones said. “I can make a case for you that we haven’t had a satisfactory defense for five or six years, really.”
“But we were porous when we got in the playoffs. We were porous when we had to buckle up and stop the run. Dan [Quinn, former Cowboys DC] did a great job. We really wanted to keep Dan.”
Will the Cowboys stick with Eberflus?
At one point, Jones was directly asked whether Eberflus would remain in the role for next season and the 83-year-old was non-committal.
Jones said: “I’m not saying anything along those lines. But I don’t want to not answer you and sound like one way or the other. I’m just saying that we really can get down to business as it should be. And it will start first thing in the morning.”
The defensive failures of 2025 will be a real frustration given the electrifying form of Dak Prescott. The Cowboys quarterback started every game, completing 404 of his 600 passes for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns, throwing just ten interceptions. His figures for passing attempts, completions and passing yards are the best in the NFL but Prescott will miss out on the playoffs once again.
