MIKE STOBEAFP

The New York Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh following their Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. The Jets started the season with a 2-3 record and Saleh had been on the hot seat since last season.

Saleh signed a five-year contract with the Jets as their head coach in January 2021, so has been with the team for a little over three seasons. In that time, his record with the Jets is 20-36 and he’s failed to get them to a postseason, something they haven’t done in 13 years.

The Jets will play the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.

Who will be the Jets’ new head coach after firing Saleh?

For now, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the interim head coach. However, they’ll eventually be looking to replace him, so here are some potential options they could be looking at.

Bill Belichick

Belichick was the New England Patriots head coach for 24 seasons, and is widely considered the best football coach of all time. His overall record with the Pats was 266–121–0. After leaving the team, however, he never found a coaching job after that. At 72 years old, Belichick has said he’s still willing to be a coach in the NFL. Perhaps his future is with the Jets.

Ben Johnson

Johnson is the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator who has helped them develop the successful offense they have today. A head coaching job may be intriguing for both sides.

Mike Vrabel

After leaving the Tennessee Titans, Vrabel never did get a head coaching job, which was unexpected. He is now a coaching and personnel consultant for the Cleveland Browns, but would probably welcome the chance for another head coaching opportunity as his teams never really reached their potential.
