The former Michigan QB’s return won’t be easy as the Vikings travel to Detroit to take on the Lions.

J.J. McCarthy returns for Week 9: This stat could spark a Vikings turnaround

The cards are stacked against the Vikings. McCarthy hasn’t played since the team’s Week 2 loss to the Falcons. The former Michigan QB showed some impressive skills in Week 1 in the Vikings’ victory against the Bears, but his second game in the NFL didn’t go as planned. In Week 3 Carson Wentz took over and led the team to victories in Weeks 3 and 5 against the Bengals and Browns, but last week Wentz had to leave the game due to a season-ending shoulder injury.
McCarthy got some good news on gameday: offensive tackles Brian O’Neill and Christian Darrisaw are active for Week 9 after dealing with recent injuries. The other good news is that McCarthy is headed back to Michigan.
As a QB for the Wolverines, McCarthy never lost a game in the state of Michigan.
He only lost one game in his collegiate career and that was the 2022 CFP Championship game against Georgia that was played in Arizona. His 27-1 record for the University of Michigan was stuff of legends and even more so considering the beat the Ohio State Buckeyes three times.
Let’s see if J.J. can keep the streak alive and surprise the Lions in Detroit in his comeback to the NFL and to Michigan.
