Joe Burrow nursing leg injury in training camp
In the Cincinnati Bengals’ training camp on Thursday, Joe Burrow was seen being carted off the field with what appears to be a right leg injury.
Coach Zac Taylor spoke to reporters after the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice on Thursday and fielded questions about Joe Burrow.
The fourth-year LSU quarterback has been the lynchpin to the Bengals’ turn of fortunes and is one of the brightest talents seen in the NFL in a generation. However, since his rookie season saw him get a torn ACL and MCL in his knee, he has had leg trouble every training camp.
Burrow was seen being carted off the field after pulling up short in what appeared to be a non-contact injury. Coach Taylor called it an injury to his right calf, saying, “It was 10 minutes ago, so we don’t have any more information.”
Early assessment is calling it a calf strain, but again Taylor stressed, “We’ll get more information as we go.”
The Bengals’ coach was quick to point out that it is not uncommon for players to experience soreness after the first day of practice, but that Burrow felt good through the course of the day.
“Knock on wood, I feel great,” Burrow had said earlier in the day to reporters. “This time last year I was sitting in a hospital bed. It’s good to be out there with the guys. Excited about where we’re at.”
The Bengals made it to the Super Bowl in Burrow’s second season and last year lost in the AFC Championship game to eventual Super Bowl Champions Kansas City. With a healthy Joe Burrow, Cincinnati are among the favorites to challenge for the title again this season.
